Misterious behaviour

Had a strange thing happening today. Arrived at home, stepped out of the car and opened the trunk to unload. While unloading my trunk (was grabbing for a box of champagne ), all of a sudden I hear a "beep" and the trunk started closing.......

I never have a beep when I open or close the trunk, tested it. Not via the handle, not via the key, not via the button in the car. Could not simulate this.....and I never saw the trunk closing by itself.

Anybody has an idea what happened? Or had this also? A hidden feature?

Or was the car just protesting because I stopped driving her

The beep is the trunk closing with foot sweep, you must have triggered it. This is a comfort access feature I presume you have.

On a somewhat related note, mine did something last week that should not even be possible. While driving down the street, I leaned over to get something out of the side door pocket and managed to press the trunk button in my pocket. The hatch then opened while driving down the street. You would think the electronics would prevent that from even being possible.....

Is it true that in Europe (or outside the US) you can use the remote to not only open, but also close the trunk/liftgate?

The US has some weird "Trunk Entrapment" laws, and I think remote closing is disabled in the US because of this.

Edit: Having said that, I believe you can "code" your BMW to change that behavior and re-enable remote closing.

Jypsie, forget everything about the "foot sweep" - your car HAS a soul - it just protested about you taking out the champagne
