Why did you go for the 3 series instead of a C Class?

For those that were deciding between a C Class and a 3 series... Why did you opt for the 3 series? I'm making that choice now. I like the C Class. The interior is awesome. I know some of you don't like that ipad looking thing that's just sticking out of the dash but I think it looks great.

But there's something i've always liked about the 3 series. Great looks and fantastic performance and handling. The MB was good but not 3 series good.

Thanks

No extended wheelbase C class. To get a decent sized backseat from Mercedes you're looking at an S-class, and the $100k price tag is an instant deal breaker.

free scheduled maintenance?

The fact that it took 4 generations of C class cars to make one that's actually 3 series competitive?

The back seat on the C was a deal breaker for me, it's smaller than the E90.

I was set on a 335i or an Audi S4. Never considered a Merc' as it is too comfort oriented.

Mercedes builds cars for passengers, BMW builds them for drivers.

My reason personally was for the driving dynamics, and the fact that the 3 series is still offered with a manual

Currently, RWD vs AWD I simply choose RWD. Although i have to admit the design of the current C class is much better than previous one.

I bought my F30 back in May '13. Back then the new C Class (W205) hadn't been released. Would my choice be different today? Probably, but you see, BMW also hadn't released the 435i GC when I was shopping

It should be interesting to see what Audi does with the B9 A4/S4 (and hopefully they make the RS4 available in US).

Every time I drive an MB I walk away thinking, "meh". I eventually just stopped bothering to even look at them.

In the compact class anyway. If I'm ever in the market for a midsize sedan (5-series, e-class, etc) then I'll revisit them. I think MB's strength lies in the larger cars, and BMW's strength is in the smaller cars.

Bingo!! We have a winner!! Even Merc owners will tell you this.

The new C Class is pretty gorgeous. And it no longer competes in the 3er/4er class. It is now 100% compact luxury cruiser. So, the question is, do you want to drive or cruise? Do you care about driving dynamics or looks cruising down the parkway?

Just doesn't handle like the Bimmer. Aside from that huge difference, backseat sucks, I'm not one for that ipad screen you mentioned and I just found it overall not great at one certain thing. I didn't like the transmission response, I didn't like the chassis feel. I DO like the interior but the back seat made no sense to me. When I bought the 3er, the body style was miles ahead of the C-Class but now with the 2015 C I can see how that has changed. New one is beautiful but remains uninspiring when behind the wheel.

Completely agree about the back seat. I was expecting it to be bigger than the 3 series but it seems smaller.

I know this will seem insignificant but I don't like the chrome bits around the door. Gives it a much more aggressive look when the trim is blacked out. MB didn't have an option to black it out even on the sports line.

This is why, I wasn't convinced of quality at all. Brand new AMG specced C-class.

Then the 7G auto transmission is nowhere near the ZF8 in the F30.
Steering felt totally disconnected. It actually lacked trim in lots of places, like the lever for the steering column adjustments is just plain black stamped metal, as is the back of the rear seat. That's stuff you expect in a 15k KIA. Then the seats, even the AMG seats are SO wide and unadjustable, I just couldn't find even 1 seat that suited me. Even the standard seats in the F30 are much more supportive. The rear seat was way too short, I'm not tall and had no support at all. The F30 might look a bit plain with the matte black plastics, but it works and doesn't creak and rattle like the C class.

1. C is too soft a ride. A little less engaging
2. The Comand system or whatever the infotainment UI is called. Couldn't stand using that thing every time I got in the car
3. I know less about modding the C
4. Wanted a wagon, and the E350 was just too much car for us right now, so we got an F31

I'm not a woman so I never even bothered to look at a C-Class (or Lexus).

It was between the 335i M-Sport and Audi S4.

In fact I read this yesterday, http://www.motortrend.com/features/m...z_c_class.html

Wife's next car will be a new C300 4Matic, my next car will be a B9 A4/S4 most likely. Wife likes the panache of the Merc, which it does have, but it's a bit too old man for my taste. A perfect car for her with sport/lighting packages so it doesn't look dowdy.

is this still the case with the W205 c-class? haven't tried one, but it sounds like this car is light years better than the previous C
