What is this part in the trunk?

I noticed this part in my trunk started coming off and am wondering what it is and what is it for. It's located near the middle of the top of the trunk.

You lift the trunk carpeted floor cover (to access the lower compartment) and it clips into this contraption you have pictured.

The sedans don't have the hydraulic strut to hold the trunk floor up?

No, its not necessary on the sedan since we have a stationary rear deck to clip it to (see pic above). Your GT doesn't so it needs a strut to hold it up.

That thing holds your trunk carpet cover once you lifted the carpet cover up.
