Incredible new laser and OLED light design revealed by BMW

Check 'em out.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1075937

Hopefully this type of lights will be available on the M2.

They look absolutely stunning.

I am a fan.

Go ///M2!

Another Image.

They look awesome. But I bet if they were to come out on the ///M2, they'd be a 100,000,000 dollar option.

If these are on the M2 is will be an expensive option. May get lucky and have Adaptive Full LED standard though.

That's what I'm hoping. That the LED will become standard on ///M cars. They should be. And that's what I'd get.

I love the front, but think the rear is a little too busy.

I don't see this happening yet. I predict that the laser lights will be available for 5 series and up only (just like how LED used to be only available only on the more expensive BMW's). If we are lucky, maybe we get xenons standard across the model range, with LED still an upgrade on lower models, but hopefully cheaper (maybe $900 like what xenons used to be)

I like the rear but the fronts look like cheap blue bulbs that the kids fit to look cool!

I doubt the blue would make it to production. In some states having blue headlights or red headlights can get you in trouble for impersonating a police officer.

When do you think they'd make Xenons the standard across the model range? Something tells me they'll leave the halogens in place in at least one model just to troll us.

You are right, we definitely could get trolled and still have halogens on base models. I hope that goes away though. I'd pay whatever the hell they want to not have halogens on my cars. It's like I'm driving blind at night when I'm in my E36.

My prediction is that we probably won't see this for a couple of years, or whenever laser headlights are more readily available in the US>

BMW should jump to LED standard for M models once the lasers lights are released.

I thought I remember Scott26 saying that the M2 will get some things that might surprise us, and when someone threw out the comment of LEDs standard there was no direct denial...

I'd be amazed with standard LEDs, Xenons yes but the surprise could be LED optional ...... or optional body kit to look identical to the PS3 GT car!! (sadly no the later).

I would say that the M2 will get LED lights because the F20/F21 gets them in just a few days. Doubtful on Laser Light it would be impractical from a cost perspective for the product.
The i8 has them as will the next 7er , something else in 2016 and an additional M4. They will be more wide spread when the new 5er arrives in 2016.

^ So exactly what I said then (5er and up receives laser headlights as option, LED standard).

Don't see LED standard happening, at least not with the current generation IMO. That's OK though, while LED headlights look better IMO, functionally, they aren't THAT much better than xenons (unlike xenons vs halogens).

Haven't researched it, but I assume that they'd be substantially more efficient, resulting in better gas mileage... I also wonder if there's any significant weight savings; nose of the car would be a great place to shave a few pounds.

No and no.

You are probably correct that they are lighter and more efficient, but definitely not enough that you'll somehow feel as a driver in terms of handling or MPG.

Having said that, the only reason I'd really want to get the LED's is because the angel eyes look so cool because they are much more 3D than the xenons. It really comes down to how BMW will package this with the M2. I'm willing to pay $1900, but if they include it in a $4500 Premium Package, then I'm out for sure.

If they're not appreciably more efficient, lighter or brighter, I'll pass... I'm pretty satisfied with the look of the xenons on my current F30

They definitely are those 3 of the above, but it's nothing like going from halogens to xenons. So for me, it's not a giant deal if I stick to xenons.

When I drive my e36 at night, it feels like I'm driving blind half the time, kinda sketch haha
