Need new rear brakes. Best bang for the buck?
My rear pads are due for replacements. I have OEM pads and purchased Akebono Euro pads. I will be replacing the rear rotors at the same time. This is my daily driver and I don't go to the track. I am just looking for something that will be a good replacement rotor.
What do you guys recommend and where should I buy? |

I've had good luck with Meyle rotors. Had them on my e46 and just put rear ones on my e90 a few thousand miles ago. I think I got them from ECS

Yea, I think China or Taiwan or something, but most stuff is these days.. I've had good luck with Meyle parts though. The funny thing is teh boxes always say "Meyle Germany" all over them, but then have a sticker that says made in Taiwan or China. I think they also have a factory somewhere in eastern Europe.

I've used Zimmermann as well as Meyle rotors, both are decent...Zimmermann probably better out of these two.
I would avoid Meyle pads though, used them once on a Subaru, way too much brake dust. |

I just bought Meyle rotors from FCP Euro, they had a Black Friday 10% off deal on them. Everyday price is decent as well. Haven't installed yet, will be putting them on with Hawk Performance Ceramic pads in a few weeks.

I just did my rears with Pagid rotors from Autohausaz, $86.56 for the two rotors delivered. I put on pagid pads, sensors and screws; Total cost for the brake job was $164.88 shipped to my door. I found that to be the best bang for my buck. I don't care for the Akebono euro pads. Not enough initial bite for me.

centric blanks.
centric makes many of the rotors that other companies will re-brand as their own, nothing wrong with it, just how the brake industry works.

I have never liked the initial jerk some cars make at initial bite point, but never really found the stock pads to be that bad, even though they have it. How did you find the dust issue with Akebono and the factors that go along with that? |

http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/34216769105 hoping that they were indeed the lower dust ones. These pagids have some dust, more than the Akebono euro ceramic ones, but acceptable in my opinion and they have the initial bite and pedal feel that I like and what I expect from my car. These pagids are definitely not the super high dust OE ones that I have had on prior BMWs. Hope this helps. |

I bought the ATE coated rotors from pelican for my rear brakes not long ago. Great thing about pelican is that they offer free shipping on most rotors, which is huge given that they are heavy items.

thanks for everyones response. I decided to go with Zimmermann rotors with Akebono pads. It's my DD and i dont track the car. From what i've read, these should be a good replacement with less brake dust.

I used autozone blanks and spray painted them with high temp paint to prevent corrosion. Been about 1.5 years and no issues so far. They only cost me $25 a side.

Meyle rotors are going to be the best value, but Zimmermann rotors are the best bang for the buck considering they're one of BMW's OEMs. IMO you won't tell the difference between the two, so I would go with Meyle. They make good products.
If you want the best bang for the buck that also looks really good, ECS rotors are great. $200 for a pair of GEOMET-coated slotted rotors? Not bad! |

I have used Akebonos for a long time and different cars over the last 10 yrs. generally for everyday pads you should not need to bed them in. I found with ceramic brakes it good to bed them in and got out and get up to speed and do some really hard braking to have them work correctly. I have done it both ways and if you get them really hot when you first install them they perform better right ways verse taking time for them to finally feel good and give you the stopping power you expect. |
