Squeeky Brakes?
Hey all,
I purchased my 428 at the end of December (23rd), and since then I've have squeeky brakes. Maybe "whistling" is the right word, but I'm sure everyone knows what I mean At first, I thought it was just because the car was brand new so I had to "break-in" the "brakes", however I just hit 1100 miles and it is still there. It doesn't squeek all the time, but I would say 6 times out of every 10. Is this normal? I had a squeeking issue with my F30, but that was only if it was really cold out (which it is right now), and just when I would pull out of the driveway. After that it wouldnt squeek again. Some insight would be helpful, considering just going to my nearest dealer and getting it checked out

Had similar issues on my F30, took it to the dealer about 3 times and I think there is finally a Service Bulletin and fix kit out that dealers now have. Take it in and have them look at it.

I thought of that too, but I have two issues with that theory
1. My 2009 Toyota Camry never squeeks to this day. I kind of expect that a car triple the price shouldnt either 2. After driving for an 30-45 minutes brakes should have heated up.. but it doesnt result in lack of squeeking

1. A car that cost 2 times more than a bmw will also have the same symptom. 2. Could be the cold weather "+" the brake dust. Ya I know... It feels embarrassed haha |

this is a well recognized problem on the F3x, too many people posting about it, do a search.
but your dealer may or may not help you even though they should already know about it.

I did a search but couldn't find anything.. I was probably using the wrong term honestly. Also, like I said earlier, I had an F30 and didn't have this problem except for when I backed off of my driveway in cold weather. In this car it happens constantly.

I am with the poster above in terms of best guess. Cold + brake dust = annoying brake squeal esp at very slow speeds. My 435 has same issue and moreso in the cold. Taking a hose to the wheels and rotors to get the majority of brake dust off, even in spite of the cold, definitely helps. At least it did for me. Beyond that my best advice is to save your pennies for better pass once winter passes. I know spending money on brake pads for a new car seems silly but plenty of threads and posts here with others raving that aftermarket pads will cut the brake dust A TON. Less squealing and less wheel cleaning from there forward. Good luck.

I noticed a rubbing or very light grind when applying my brakes. I checked the front rotors and they looked fine from the outside but when I stuck my hand in to feel the inside of the rotor it was gouged pretty bad. Took it to BMW expecting them to check and replace the front rotors and pads, what they did was hosed off the brake dust. They assumed because the car had only 11,000 miles that the brakes couldn't have been defective and never bothered to diagnose or even test drive till I called everyone over to show them they didn't fix the problem. That is when the service manager took the car for a road test and confirmed there was a problem. They replaced front brake pad and rotor but I still wonder if they ever bothered to check for frozen calipers.
