DIY: Gas Pump Guard

This is a simple little DIY, but over the years it has saved me from dripping on my car during fuel ups. More importantly, it has protected my paint from chips caused by fuel pump mishaps and poorly fitting nozzles.

The guard is made of sheet rubber available at home centers. But better yet, I use inner tubes that I get free at the local tire repair shop that services trucks and tractors. The rubber is thick and plenty large. They are only too happy to toss you an old one.

Cut a rectangle approximately 3.75" x 11". On one end of the rectangle use a knife or scissors and cut a hole 2.25" in diameter.

Remove the gas cap and press the rubber around the lip of the opening. It will stretch tight, not interfere with the operation of the cap and will never slip off. Fold it up, close the gas flap and your done!

Thanks.

I've been eyeing getting my car 'dipped' in some form or fashion, though the aversion to gasoline is a bit worrying. You essentially built what this guy sells for ten whole bucks: https://www.dipyourcar.com/Plasti-Di...rotection.html
