Side mirrors question

Quick question I have a 2013 335i Xdrive with auto fold side view mirrors I was just wondering if you can manually fold your side view mirrors without causing damage

Yeah, but you gotta use the button to unfold them or they'll be loose. Its covered in the manual.

So what if you only fold one if you hit the button to unfold will the unfolded one fold and the folded one unfold?

My manual is different than yours. I have an F34. It just says "Press button." Then it has bullet points, and the third one says "For folding mirrors back out that were folded away manually"

Yeah I found it mine says the same thing, I just don't see where it says don't fold out manually cause it can loosen. ONly reason I ask is cause I did it manually one time just now I just want to make sure I didn't damage anything

Just wondering, why would you want to do that?

Cause I parked in a spot where the passenger side was extremely close to the wall so I just manually fold that mirror and when I got back to the car I manually folded that mirror back

So much easier to just push the button. You're going to put less stress on the mechanism by letting it operate electrically as it's designed rather than forcing it manually.

Maybe it was in the 7's manual, or the X5, or the A6, or the Yukon. I've had a lot of cars with power folding mirrors.

i just use the button to fold the mirrors. it feels odd if you do it manually to fold the mirror coz of the pressure. I yelled to my partner or friends who manually closed my F31 tailgate. there is a button to close and they still got used to close manually and hope it won't permanently killed the hydraulic system over time.

Chill out, the tail gate is desined to handle manual usage... just because it has an auto electric feature doesnt mean it is or has to be exclusively used that way...

Now for the side view mirrors, thats another story..

So you have a button next to you inside the car......but you leaned over or got out and manually pushed the mirror in instead?

Hey guys, new to the forum, just picked up my car two weeks ago, hope this is the right spot for this question, couldn't find anything similar on other threads

For some reason when I press the button to automatically fold up the side mirrors they now fold until they hit the side windows and then stop... obviously not right. Not sure if there is a calibration issue. I can't figure out why it started doing this, thinking maybe calibration is off because someone manually moved them when passing by or when I got the windows tinted.

Going to take it to the dealer, but they are booked until next week. Anyone have similar issues or a fix? I was thinking to start manually moving them around, but didn't want to mess it up.

Thanks

Not sure if I understand your question, this seems perfectly normal to me.

Were you afraid the wall was going to jump out and hit your mirror while you were gone?

The mirrors should fold up and not hit the side windows, there should be a gap, but now when they fold they keep going and press up against the side windows

Mine fold up until they lightly tap against the front windows and stop. I thought this was normal.

That's odd. I don't think I've seen an F3x like that around here. When mine fold, they definitely make a sound as if they hit something, but it seems like some sort of internal/hidden stopper. There's no physical contact anywhere on the outside housing.

I'll snap up a picture when I get back to the car after work.

Mine may well be the same. I've never actually stepped out to look if the side mirror is physically touching the glass or not. I've just assumed the light tap I hear is the side mirror hitting glass.
