MPS Knocking & Clunking noise

My local tuner shop installed a set of M performance suspenison kit and 6 days later I found out the driver side is slightly higher than the passenger side, so I took it back to the shop and have the tech do the inspection. Tech stated everything looks normal and the height difference might casued by unsattled springs. Took the car back home, 1 week later I heard very loud knocking and clunky noise coming from my front passenger side and it appares on the low speed (below 50MPH) and very consistent when drive on the bumpy road.
Since I have taken my car to the tuner shop last time and they told me everything looks perfect. This time I really don't trust them to touch my car again. So I called my SA at local BMW dealership and made a 7am appointment yesterday. Drop off the car at the morning and get a call from my SA saying both front springs are loose, and they are going to charge me $340 dollars for the labor to redo it. I was like fine as long as it gets fixed, but somehow they didn't do it at the end. The noise was gone when tech tighten all the bolts.
I took the car back last night and everything was fine until I pulled into my drive way. I heard the noise again and it was all over it. Just like the same before. Again, I called my SA and drop off the car this morning. 10 mins ago my SA texted me saying they are still not able to locate the noise.

I will be pissed if they find out my local tuner shop didn't do their work right at the first time. I will ask for a full refund if that's the case.

Did you order the bilstein b16 suspension yet? Let me know how it works.

Updates: SA called last night and told me they've found the issues after tore apart the front suspensions. The issue was caused by the torn strut bearing rubber boot and both front springs are touching the metal thru the rubber boots and making the knocking noise. BMW confirmed the issue was casued by improper install.

Wow what a headache, hopefully BMW isn't going to charge you for diagnosing the suspension

Actually, they are. Both labor and parts. I am going to claim it with my local tuner shop for the improper install.

I am gently asking my local shop to refund the moeny for the front suspensions installation and the money for the replacement parts. Let's see what they are going to reply.

Definitely an unfortunate situation. It is situations like these that make me proud that I do all my own work.

I remember reading just a short time ago that someone had a shop install their springs and the shop installed the springs upside down which cause the spring to pierce through the spring pad.

Good luck!

i could have told you thats what it was if i had seen this post in time. i had a similar problem on my camry expect it was my fault. The bearing was supposed to be installed in a certain direction, unlike ours, so it came apart due to uneven spring pressure. In your case they just did a sloppy job and wasnt paying attention to the condition of the bearing before they put the strut back into place.

The shop I went to is a well known tuner shop in the local area and very reputable. Even my local BMW dealership have done some business with them. I have no idea why they screwed up this time.

Hey, at least I am glad the suspension is installed right. I did not hesitate to get mine installed at a dealer. It does cost, but you know for sure that they will install correctly or they will cover to get it done right eventually. Things such as suspension, differential, etc.. I will not go anywhere but the dealer I trust
Enjoy what the MPS offers now

After paying $1200 dollars (labor and parts), I am finally able to drive the car with MPS installed correctly. Now it's time for me to get some of the money back from the local shop.

I have a similar clunk over bumps at low speeds. I have had two dealers check it out and both said that everything is fine. The MPS was installed at a dealer. I believe that I should take it for a third inspection...

By the way, the uneven height between driver and passenger side is normal. From what I was told, the driver's weight will put the car more closer to the normal balance.
