has anyone pressed the "P" on your transmission when driving?

In all my vehicles I tend to have a habit of resting my right wrist on the transmission but with my new F30 I'm scared to do so as my wrist would sit directly on the "P" button.

If accidently pressed during drive would the car shift into Park?

Ejector seats enable and shoot you out of the car.

No. The car will only go into parking mode if you have your foot on the brakes.

I pressed it when I was still slightly moving. Just got a message on the screen telling me the car has to be stopped and the foot has to be on the brake before it would go into park. So the car is generally smarter than the driver - it won't let you scramble the transmission.

Yeah I did. You'll just get an error message saying the car has to be stopped before you can put it in park.

Conversely, you can just turn the car off without pressing P at all and the car will just put itself in park. Those fancy pants electronic gear shifters.

Also - if youre "rolling" like maybe a traffic light or something, the car will engage "P" and jerk you to a stop. Happened to me a few times because I like to rest my hand on the shifter as well.

However, yes, if your going over probably like 2-3 mph it just says the car must be stopped to put it in park

dude, I was parking in my garage, and was driving in at like 5-10 MPH....accidently hit the P...and the car just stopped!!! Suddenly and rough. Scared the deuce out of me. Not sure how fast one has to travel for the car to just PARK when hitting the P button.

Conversely, has anyone pressed the ignition button while driving? I always think about that when I turn off the auto start/stop option when driving, the ignition is JUST below that

Happened to me once but I was stopped when it did so I doubt this is the feedback youre looking for.

One time, when i used to drive 2006 infiniti m45 sport, my drunk girlfriend pushed the ignition button while i was in traffic. It stopped.......... -_-
I think i had to put the lever to 'P' first and turn the ignition back on.
I think it will prevent th car from turning it off if you are driving fast enough.

Anyways, i accidentally push the p button here and there because i love feeling the carbon fiber texture on it lol. Just like someone said, unless you are going slow enough it will just throw a message for you that it cannot do that.

By the way, throw your drunk girlfriend in the back seat if she becomes too... playful when drunk.

While I just took off from a stop light (4-5mph maybe), my friend on the passenger seat who was playing with audio buttons, accidentally pressed the P and the car jerked really bad and stopped in middle of the traffic. It was scary.

This is true, i have done it in the driveway before must have been doing less than a mile per hour but did jerk me around.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm always paranoid about pressing the ASS button because it's right next to the ignition button

I don't mean to highjack the thread but, given people like to experiment with hitting the park button, ignition button and/or the ASS button, has anyone pushed the envelope by pulling the hood release twice at 75MPH to see how strong it is - or isn't?

Anyone try a neutral-drop? i.e. rev the motor in neutral then slam it into drive at high RPM?
