Plastic Trim Removal

Has anyone ever removed the narrow trim piece that surrounds your traction control and the sport/eco pro buttons? It seems that it should just snap out like the trapezoid shaped piece does that surrounds your auto shifter just to the right of it. I don't want to break it by prying too hard. Is there some trick?

Here is a DIY i wrote up for custom radar with mute button install. It shows how to remove the trim pieces from the center console. just scroll down and you find photos of the trim that holds the driving modes button.
