MSport Brakes

I'm currently considering upgrading from my 328i to a 435 Msport. While the car is well equipped (Premium,Tech,DHP,HK,Drivers Assist) it's missing the Msport Brakes package. Does this mostly matter on the track, or can you tell a big difference in real world driving with them?

Thanks!

I find them a bit too strong for real world driving... nearly impossible to come to a smooth stop with them, unlike my Hyundai and my Lotus. Always jerks to a stop, I'd never option them again on a daily driver.

They're for looks only. They're not much stronger than the standard I6 brakes. Front calipers are the same, rotors are only 30mm bigger. Pads are the standard European pads. The rear calipers are better and rotors are bigger, but the rear brakes don't do nearly as much as the fronts.

I got them purely for the rears and looks, but I probably could have lived without them and just painted the standard calipers.

Actually, you are wrong. The front calipers are in fact different and pads are not the standard European pads.

The $650 M Sport brake option is the same as the $2,500+ M Performance brake upgrade available seperately minus the goofy looking dimples/slots on the rotors and a different powder-coat color on the calipers.

They are two piece rotors with AL hats to reduce unsprung weight. They are a steal at $650 considering what that upgrade would cost via aftermarket. I paid more than double that for my Vette's 2-piece rotors, and that didnt include pads. You could probably reduce the bite by switching to a lower dust pad and kill 2 birds with one stone.

They are a cosmetic option, at least imho. Do you just do regular, everyday type driving? Don't need them. I test drove a 335 with them and it was overkill for normal driving. Do you track your car? These are right between standard brakes and competition brakes. You could argue that you don't really need them on track either. And think about the brake dust...if you have darker wheels, it may not show as much, but if not, and you are even a little ocd, you will want to clean them daily. It would have driven me nuts.

Also, on some models (not sure about the F36?), they delete the fog lights. I actually use my fog lights from time to time and like to know that they're available.

That said, they are a pretty nice cosmetic upgrade.

They don't look like two piece, do you have a reference for that?

I think they are worth it just for the looks, but shouldn't be a deal breaker if the car you are looking at doesn't have them.

BMW's configurator describes them as AL 2 piece design to reduce weight. Ive never seen them in person to be honest, so it could be false advertising.

For the 435 M-sport you get different rotors and the rear brakes are 2-piston fixed calipers. The front calipers are same just painted. IMO good for.tra occasional track.

IIRC the M-Performance brakes also get coding

Again...no, the front calipers are not the "same just painted." They are different calipers. Look at them.

I have a 2015 435i convertible (F33) with M Sport brakes. I really like them. First, I've discovered what a crappy driver I am through the assistance of the Heads Up Display (HUD) and anti collision feature; I really enjoyed the braking power, and think the grip is just right, not too much, and wouldn't want less.

Also, there's much discussion about the brake dust from the M Sport brakes. This is my fifth BMW, and I presently own three. I don't find the dust any more or less than the other cars. I did wax the rims when new, and I use Mother's foaming cleaner - I'm quite happy with the results. In between baths, I use the California duster for wheels to keep the shiny part shining.

I recall that only certain rims are compatible with the M Sport brakes, so this alone may be the determining factor whether you can even get M Sport brakes.

I don't have an opinion of how they respond on a track.

For a daily driver, I don't think it is a deal breaker.

Car sounds nice, go for it

That said, the brakes are cool looking and are a great value for the bigger rotors and different rear caliper, so I wouldn't get a car without them unless it is a smoking deal. (LOL at the "only 30mm larger rotor" comment.. people hit up the aftermarket for $$$$ to get that type of increase)

The only reason I'd get the M Sport brakes is because they are required when optioning certain wheel choices, which IMO is stupid, but whatever.
Are the MSport brakes from the factory only available with the blue calipers?

I don't know about the x35i's but a ppk kit for the 330d requires a brake upgrade unless msport is specced. So worth a thought if you are going down that route.

They're both 4 piston brembos no? Perhaps I should have said "essentially the same".

I'm comparing the 435i M-Sport to the same but with M-sport brakes.

You can blame market differences. Our M-Sport package includes M-Sport brakes, tinted (rear) windows and 19" 403M wheels for NZ$5,000 over base price. A bargain in my books.

Correct. Brembo is an OEM to countless other makes/models as well. Just because they're both 4-piston doesn't make them the same.

Might as well be the same as every other 4-piston caliper made by Brembo, too...

I think there must be something wrong with your M Sport brakes! Mine feel exactly like any other cars brakes, except when you stamp on them of course!
