Engine Light and Gas Cap...

Is this normal...I have 2015 435ix GC with less than 1,000 kms [i.e. 625 miles]...I was driving home from the cottage and noticed that my yellow engine light came on...I checked the iDrive vehicle status menu which read all was fine...I pulled over, parked the car and checked the engine oil, all was fine.

I then called a friend of mine who is a BMW enthusiast...I was told to turn the car off, remove the gas cap and re-insert the gas cap making sure to apply a good amount of pressure / twist and to restart the car...sure enough the problem cleared.

My friend went on to tell me that this is a known which has happened from time to time on most of his BMWs.

Would appreciate others comments / thoughts on this.

Thx...

Take it to the dealer to read it the code. It could be anything. My light came on less than 100 miles and it was a broken Cam deal.

It's not exactly a "known" on BMWs. A loose/unsealed gas cap is a frequent cause of the Check Engine light on all cars. The yellow check engine light always indicates something has caused the emission system to go out of spec. There can be about 1000 causes for this and an unpressurized fuel system is one of the most common. It can easily be a one time thing. If it is the light will clear itself automatically within about 5 or 6 driving cycles.
