3rd gear, why so long?

Why is 3rd gear so long on our cars (335 6MT)? Ive noticed that when Im flooring it through the gears, when I shift to 3rd gear, the RPMs really drop and the top speed is 105mph... Why couldn't they have made the length of all the gears more equal, rather then making 3rd gear longer and very noticeable?

But either way, its still really cool how you can hit 105mph... most cars get up to 95ish, so if you're racing, you will have a nice advantage...

The 3rd gear really help on racing as you said.

Even against cars faster and more power I have pulled a little in 3rd

Yea, I just wish that they wouldve made all the gears more equal rather then have a big difference from 2nd to 3rd.

Anyone have a list of the gear ratios for 6MT and Step at hand?

I mean all our gears are pretty long.

6mt
40mph 1st
72mph 2nd
100mph 3rd
140mph 4th
170mph +++ 5th
180mph +++ 6th

Step
Pretty much the same except for 6th

218mph 6th gear << thats really the gear ratio or what it is set at

I might be wrong between Step and 6mt on the 6th gear they may be reversed I dont know though

I guess, but you can really feel the difference from 2nd to 3rd... Also, I can get my car past 100 in 3rd, more like 105ish... but definitely past 100.

I think 3rd gear on the 330i goes up to just under 100mph. The 335i has a very slightly longer 2nd and 3rd, IIRC, and goes up to 105mph in 3rd.

I may be wrong; I don't have the gear ratios handy.

EDIT - looked up the gear ratios:

For 330i - 4.35, 2.50, 1.67, 1.23, 1.00, 0.85 / 3.15 final. This translates to speed at 7K redline of 38.04, 66.18, 99.08, 134.52, 165.46 (if no limiter), 194.66 (yeah, right)

For 335i - 4.06, 2.40, 1.58, 1.19, 1.00, 0.87 / 3.08 final. This translates to speed at 7K redline of 41.68, 70.51, 107.10, 142.20, 169.22 (if no limiter), 194.51 (yeah, right)
