Clarification on e90
Finally I'm pretty much recovered, and able to drive. (Broke my back and wrist). So the baby 328i has been in the garage, with only 1500 miles on it, and in a week, I'm now up to 2400 miles.
So when I'm driving, I always see 325i and 330i's. The new ones. Or new looking body style for say. What is the deal with that? Whats the difference in those compared to my 08 328i? On addition, my friend just got a Mustang GT (older version, 2002 i think) and wants to race.. for money... Is it worth it? or will i get smoked? |

Don't race the Mustang GT in straights, race it in the twisties and you will probably win. The Mustang GT is too heavy to be great in the twisties. |

I don't post often, I'm mostly a lurker here, which is how I usually prefer it.
However, I wanted to interject, as I wouldn't race it either way. From Edmunds.com... 2002 Mustang GT Coupe, under "specs": Curb Weight: 3241 lbs. Horsepower: 260 hp Max Horsepower: 5250 rpm Torque: 302 ft-lbs. Max Torque: 4000 rpm With a 5-speed transmission. And under "standard features": Limited Slip Differential (Rear) ...it has other standard features as well, however I figured that was the only relevant part. For reference, the 2007 (I'm assuming) E90 328i, under "specs": Curb Weight: 3340 lbs. Horsepower: 230 hp Max Horsepower: 6500 rpm Torque: 200 ft-lbs. Max Torque: 2750 rpm Of course with the 6-speed, but... ...without an LSD. I can't find any handy specs on google, however the '99 was roughly the same output (260hp/300 lb-ft), and it ran 0-60 in 5.5 seconds (Edmunds), while the 328i hits 6.1 (C&D). I don't mean to be a party pooper and I'd definitely race it for fun (in the appropriate arena), but I don't think I'd put money on it. However, crossing a line first does not a car make, and I'd take the 328i anyday. |

first off, you shouldn't street race.
Now that that's out of the way, I can say that I've driven a Mustang GT. It's powerful, but let's just say that it's not what I would call confidence inspiring. It's fast in a straight line to be sure, but I wouldn't want to tackle curvaceous roads in it.

If you have a 335i for sure. But honestly, don't street race. Take it to an air strip. |

I won't comment on street racing - no need. But as far as the difference between a 325/330 E90 and 328/335 E90... do a search of this forum.

A muffler won't do much but I've beaten several Mustang GTs (current gen and previous, all with automatics) in my manual 328i but I have to launch it pretty hard. I've raced maybe 5 of them accross those 2 generations owned by friends of mine, I can usually keep up or slightly pull on them but it's close for sure.
In 2007 BMW replaced the E90 325i and 330i (in America at least) with the 328i which sits between them performance wise (230HP vs. 215 and 255) and has the standard features of the previous base model (325i) in 2007 they also added the 335i which is the new top model of the 3 series range (non M of course). |

Your car will sound fast but wont beat a mustang. The 335i on the other hand could rape the GT.

You know what else is lots of fun - firing a gun into a crowd. You don't always kill someone. It's just luck or fate... just like street racing.
