$55k starting price is crazy! That's an M3/4 ED Invoice territory! Good luck convincing us to pay this much, BMW. You'll need it!

The info posted on this board is far more reliable than any speculation provided by the car mags.

They didn't really provide any new info so I'd take their pricing estimate with a grain of salt. Their previous articles went from 400+ hp S55 motor, to 374hp 6 speed only, to now "just under" 400hp with manual and DCT. Meh.

At $55k base I am going to look elsewhere. I know it's only $1-2k more than what most of us expect ($53k base or so) but at that range there are other options out there. Not quite worth it even if it's just $1-2k over.

How is $55K so unheard of? The M235i starts at $43k, the M3 starts at $62K. Seems like $52-55K is where the M2 would fit best while minimizing cannibalizing either.

I say $53,100.

"We expect the M2 to be significantly lighter than the M235i". More like marginally lighter, and that $55k base is a tad high.

55K too high. If that's the case I'll shoot for a lower priced car and then aim higher for my next.

Really hoping 52k, 53k the highest. Come on.

My best guess still places it at or around $53K base MSRP. 425 hp.

Well wouldn't that make the M2s ED like $47-48k? I think if we are going to compare prices, we might as well compare apples to apples.

This article really doesn't teach us anything new unfortunately

51.5k with MT and metallic paint and 53.5k with DCT the price can't be too far away from the CLA 45 AMG (it's main competitor). 52.5k for me please BMW I already put my deposit down for the car!

Why would it have more rated hp than the M3/4?

The logic I'm looking at is a marked increased over the M235i. And to make it so, BMW will also need to bump up the M3/4. Othewise, how will this new M2 make a mark over its perceived segment competitors, keep an edge over the its own marque's class and still not crowd the premium M3/4?

I for one is on a wait-and-see on how this unfolds.

$52-53k base, hellooooo BMW again. $55k base, hellooooo CLA45. Depending on how BMW plans on positioning the M2, logic dictates it shouldn't be so much more than the CLA45. At $53k it's already $4k more than the Merc.

Not a chance that it gets more hp than the M3/4.

They're going to sell a car that has more horsepower for 10 grand less? Not happening. The engine in the M2 is not easily tuned to over 400 hp anyways.

We're expecting just under 370 hp.

Agreed but I ahould have clarified that for those of us on the fence about getting an ///M in 2016, it may make more sense to bargain for an LCI M3/4 as we won't be able to get near ED Invoice pricing on an M2 when it first gets released.

By having bigger and better brakes, having an LSD, bigger wheels and tires, more aggressive styling, 40-50 hp more than the M3/4. None of these improvements are what I'd call minor IMO

Can't disagree with you on that one. I'll also be waiting until late summer/end of 2016 before I make my final pick. Timing better works for me, plus better deals could be had. But at the same time, I'm pretty sure BMW aren't gonna worry about that for us

You've got nothing to lose. I wish we can get the M3 goodies, such as the somewhat-bespoke engine, better cooling and light weight components into the M2 but it's not going to happen for a reasonable price.

Maybe we should lease and wait for the G generation before getting into a long-term ownership gig

Which is the only positive thing about me getting the 235 when I did - I will be able to miss the initial madness, see and drive one in person and go from there. I love the F80, so it's a definite possibility, and if it turns out that the money isn't much different between the two, I will definitely be looking hard at the M3.
