New Developments

I just talked to BMW NA and they stated that the first E92 will be reaching US shores very soon. My question is to all of those who have their order status. My status just changed from Production to Awaiting Transport (...so exciting). Who else is at this stage? I"m sure there are at least a few of you. Whtas your take on our time frame seeing as how the car is reall, built, and ready to go now? Do you think BMW will hold the cars for a long period of time for a late release seeing as how they are completed? Thoughts anyone?

You didn't ask BMW about them possibly holding the car? Mine is at Awaiting Transport as well, and I obviously want my car ASAP.

I have spoken to two different people at BMW NA and they both said that no M3s will be released to the buyers until launch on March 29. The general manager at my dealer confirmed this also.

I just checked my status this morning; it has completed production and is in route to the port.

Frustrating!!!

My car just finished production today. What irks me is the depreciation we will take based on model year---particularly if fall production vehicles roll out in September or October as '09s and we don't take delivery of our '08s until the last week of March. Thanks BMW.

Adults also play with toys... they are just more expensive.

You just have to assume there is a company system and policy behind. Be patient, the car will arrive just in time for the spring....

I can't make sense out of that.

how absurd. a car totally ready and being held for months. whats the point? if anything, BMW is just doing a great job of pissing off high end clients. It would be one thing if the cars just weren't ready, but if they are complete and just sitting there, why the long pause? absurd. im going to have some choice words for BMW NA

I am not defending BMW, but the cars that are being built now or have been built already were most likely never meant to be sold to customers at this stage. They are most likely all demo cars that the dealerships are supposed to use to promote the product. I doubt that full scale US production has even started yet. But I might be wrong. Regardless, BMW knew this would happen and didn't do anything about it.

I don't believe that. BMW corporate would not have allowed dealers to order vehicles on our behalf then.

I think that if they were just meant to be a fleet of demo cars then the dealers receiving them would have some kind of bulletin specifying these cars as demos. And if they were really strictly intended to be just demos, I would've thought that the ordering system wouldn't have allowed dealers to make modifications on the car to allow a customer to spec' it or even change the priority tag on the ordering system as "PRIORITY 1 - CUSTOMER ORDERED" and actually applying the customers' names on the cars. My car which is tied to my name as customer ordered car, can be registered on bmw owners circle, has a VIN, and is also in AWAITING TRANSPORT status doesn't seem like a demo car. Ironically, because I'm passing on it to hold out for an MDKG version, it will now become a demo car if the alternate buyer who interested flakes out.

Perhaps the real intended demo cars were mostly damaged at the little mishap at the NJ port.

GregW, aren't you buying your dealer's demo car? I thought your dealer said something to you in those lines, or am I making this up? Timsev, any perspective on this?

I agree, most likly our first delivery M3's are the Demo car's. As far as I know my dealership has 6 M3's allocated to them for the March 29th release. According to my order I had to finalize my options by the 12th of Feb. That was the cut off date for my production slot. I also have noticed that out of the 6 allocations, only mine and the owner of my dealership's M3's are almost complete in the production proccess. The other day one of the other 4 moved into 150 status but I dont know when their production completion date is.

high hopes but if it is in fact one of the Demo cars, I hope BMW took some extra effert to make sure they are durable...Most likly they will be the sheep though. "boss one of them Sheep aint moving anymore" "Lamb Chops it is!"

1800 831-1117 say "production status" and then say your production number, the answers will follow

Also, create a user name on bmw owners circle and log in. It allows you to follow your order and in my experience thus far is only one day off from the toll free phone number recording.

yes, the first batch are demo cars. Some dealers are selling their's. Some aren't. We figured, even if we keep the demo, as soon as someone wants to buy it, we'll sell it.

Correct--that's what I was told. I'm actually taking the second allocation, but it will be done before the first.

hmmm i just got off the phone with my dealer and he checked the status of my M3. It is due in the last week of Feb and will be release the first few days of March. so not the 29, i think you are talking about a later delivery. I mean i could be wrong. but i dont think the cars delivered in late feb will sit and rust for a month for no real reason. i can see them holding it untill the first few days of march but not for a full month
