Steering wheel question

Good evening everyone... hope you're doing well!

I just noticed the other day on my E92 (only 650 miles) that the steering wheel is a teenie tiny, slightly bit off. In other words, when the car is going straight, the steering wheel is just the slightest amount towards the right. The way I was able to tell was using the BMW logo on the steering wheel as a guide... and when I put it straight, the car starts veering off to the left.

Is this simply the way it might've come from the factory, or is something that perhaps occurred, and thus I'd want to have the dealer take care of it? Thanks!

You have an xi? Theres a service bulletin about it. I'm pretty sure mine is off a bit but it's so subtle that I just ignore it. If you have an i that's the first I've heard of it.

lol, is this your first car? Your steering's misaligned. You could go to your dealer or other repair shop and get a realignment for a bit o $.

Sometimes just using the logo to judge the alignment can be off because the logo itself may be placed with a tilt, make sure your wheels itself is off before you let people mess with your otherwise perfectly aligned car.

Thats weird, usually it would be a tiny bit in the other direction due to the crown of the road.

Don't do anything if it is only a small misalignment. Why go through the hassel of dropping off your car for the day then worry in case it gets scratched at the dealer, or how many miles they are going to put on it.

My xi is exactly the same way. No big deal, don't worry about it. I pay attention to any pulling suggesting an alignment issue.

I own a shop where we specialize in alignments. Your problem can be resolved with a simple adjustment but you'll need to get your car up on the alignment rack first. Get it done because you don't know the reason for the misalignment. It could have been SET that way when the factory alignment was done, or something could have gotten bent in shipping.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Actually, no my car isn't an xi, and NO it isn't my first car either

It's just that since it doesn't veer off to the left or right when I let go of the steering wheel, but continues in a nice straight line, I didn't think it be an alignment issue.

And to those of you who posted that I should just let it be... maybe you're right. I'd hate to take it in for something so small, and something else happens.

Thank you once again for your insight.

From what possible perspective is this a "steering wheel" problem?

I gather he's asking how it relates to the steering wheel itself vs just the steering (system), which is splitting hairs if you ask me.

funny car does the same thing, just just slightly to the right. you go to straiten it out and goes to the left. originally i had to hold the wheel way to the left to keep it strait. they did an aliment. fixed it or some of it now it's tiny bit off like urs. took it back. now there telling my that nothing is wrong. is there any way to get that tbs link.

As long as your car has less than 1000 miles on it, you can take it back to the dealer for a free alignment.

I thought it was 1200 miles but this guy is at 650 so he's good either way.

this is what dealer told me they didn't find any thing so now i have to waste my time to show them. any way my SA told me when they do the aliment at the factory the steering wheel was off set. to fix it they redo the aliment. this what i learned today when they do the aliment they put the steering wheel "strait" and adjust thew/e they adjust to that strait wheel

Really? I didn' know that. Is that written anywhere so I can show it to my dealer in case they're saying I have to pay for it?

Exactly. Nothing to do with alignment. They just didn't attach the wheel to the steering column/servo/whatever straight. I let go on the highway going 80 and the car will be fine for at least 10 seconds, even though the wheel is tilted ever so slightly to the left.

Yup, that's exactly how mine funtions First Class. So I guess I'll just let it be... I'd hate to take it in for that and something else happens.
