Upgrading HID's, Osram D1S best choice for bluer hue?
So I want a bit more of a blue look to my HID's and I've read the Osram D1S bulbs will be best for my E92.. I see quite a few D1S options out there that offer this bluer hue, but I also see some BMW's with stock HID's that have more blue than my E92. I take it not all 08+ D1S bulbs are the same on BMW's then right? My neighborhood has a few BMW's and lately I've been paying attention to the lights and while my HID's are stock and very bright white with zero to no blue, I see a few here and there with that blue tint to them but still bright enough to be seen a mile away.. I see that the most common Osram's are 5000K, maybe I should seek a higher rated kelvin D1S bulb? I know the higher you get the more white you sacrafice though.
Any input on this would be great..! |

This is probably what you want. I have the Osram CBI and they are more of a pure white but definitely have OEM output. The ones below are very similar in quality with a slightly higher kelvin so they will have that bluish tint but still have great output (a lot better than aftermarket). Plus TRS, is an awesome company that sell quality and legit products.

Osram CBI are the best HID bulbs money can buy for output and nice color as well. Tonnes of counterfeits on the market though, so it's best to buy from a verified and reputable source. |

Thanks guys! Glad to hear multiple positive reviews on these! I don't like the 10K blue but the 6-8000k looks so clean coming down the street!
Do these bulbs really get as long a lifetime as they are suggested to have?? Last edited by BeastMode335i; 02-19-2015 at 07:06 AM.. |

Can't go wrong with stuff from TRS. Excellent service and quality products as mentioned by others. I've had my Osram Xenarc CBI's for well over a year and half and they're flawless. I went with the 5,000K option as I prefer the pure white look, but to each his own.

Osram CBIs have no hint of blue, despite their misleading name. They are 5000k, mostly white on the Kelvin scale.
You'll be happier with a 6000K D1S, such as Phillips Ultinon if you ask me- I know this from previous experience That said, I have the 5000K CBIs now like Cyanide, and could not be happier with them. |

Are the Osram CBIs a D1S or D2S bulb? I've been told both fit, but is that actually true? What's the difference?

Are these the philips you're referring to?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-D1S-HID-B...35f371&vxp=mtr I saw them all around $300, but then saw these for $75 lol..! |

Also, about "bluer" lights, remember, the higher you go over 4.3k, the more light you will actually lose. So yes, they might look nicer, but you are sacrificing actual light output. With that said, I decided to go with the TRS XB35 6k D1S. They are only $50 and great bulbs. Here is an excellent comparison test that validates exactly what i was speaking about: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...-D2S-Bulb-Test If you want the XB35's in D1S, you have to call because they aren't on their website. |

D2S is the older generation of bulb which requires an external igniter which is either in the ballast or in the cable. D1S are the newer technology bulbs and have the igniters built into the bulb. Aside from Japanese manufactures, I believe all other car manufacturers are using D1S as the standard. |

Thanks for that insight on the XB35's, I just googled some of their images and they look awesome! And for $50 you can't really go wrong! |

I haven't been able to install them yet. From my old bulbs, I would expect an increase in output but from the OEM, I might not. Only because I am moving from a 4.3k (max available output) to a 6k bulb.

I was able to get my bulbs installed. Of course we all know what a PITA it is to change out the bulbs. I'm waiting for a little more hours on them so they color shift and can give you some accurate pictures. I do like the color.
