Oil temps rise faster after coolant change?
So I did a coolant swap on my 07 335i. I drained about 6-7qts and added 1gal of water and .5gal of BMW coolant. It seems like since I did that, the oil temps rise faster. They dont necessarily go higher, but they get from 140-220 quicker than they used to.
I did the regular automatic bleeding, and then for good measure I let any extra air out of the bleed screw a few times. The coolant level is still around max, maybe a little bit over. Is this normal or has anybody seen this? |

Curious, how did you drain coolant?
The normal mix is 50-50, or close, you did 66 - 33. Any reason for that? its not recommended to go that low on coolant for corrosion reasons. Not to mention freezing, but guess you live in ca. Heat transfer is better tho.

I pulled the fmic, opened the bleed screw and cap and let it drain until it stopped. The fluid draining out was pretty blue already, I have no problem running less than 1:1, especially since the fluid in there wasn't straight water.
The coldest it gets here is about 28, so I wanted the better heat transfer. But it was a fairly passive decision, I had intended to run 1:1 but it just didn't work out that way. |

If you are running such low coolant, they say to add water wetter to have anti corrosion props and prevent boilover.
