Cool Do you put on the seatbelt before starting the car?

Why I ask?

Because I have to hear the seatbelt warning chime every time I get into the car (and the low wiper fluid, and the low gas and the low temp...but thats a different story). I have a habit of starting the car THEN putting on the seatbelt.

Wanted to see how many others also hear this chime because they start the car first. If it is a common behaviour, then maybe BMW can work on delaying the seatbelt chim till you start driving vs starting the car.

Sometimes I get in the car not even planning to drive and find that I've put on my seatbelt anyways.

Sort of off topic but I had the pleasure of driving an '08 E90 loaner while my '06 was in for service for a week and a half, and I am SOO glad I don't have the '08 chime. It is SO annoying and it is SO loud when the volume is up for the music.

Maybe that's why everyone is complaining about it? I don't get it. My seatbelt chimes like 3 times and then shuts up.

Yeah I'm just comparing my 06's chime to the '08's. The 06's chime is much less annoying in my opinion.

on my 06 e90 it doesn't start chiming until either a) i hit a certain speed or b) i'm moving for like 30 seconds. but i usually put it on as i'm pulling out of the garage...

is there a way to turn off the chime for the passenger seat? really sucks when you put something heavy on the seat and it won't shut up!

I know with the e92 everyone likes the seat belt presenter but from the time I learned to drive I learned to put on my seatbelt BEFORE I start the engine. That's what I've been doing for the past 21 years - its a hard habit to break!

I press the Start-button and then reach for the belt while the engine starts. One quick, fluid movement. The belt is fastened almost before the engine is running normally. ;-)

My "arm" comes out as soon as I insert the key. The biggest pain with an e92 (no CA) is if you start moving without buckling up first, the arm and belt retract and you end up chasing the belt back into it's holder. No big deal though, my seat is all of the way back anyway so it's not a far reach for me.

I guarantee you 95% of the e92 owners will select "push first, grab next" basically because when you start the car you get the belt handed to you.

The first thing I do when I get in is start the car. It's all one motion. My left hand is closing the door while my right hand is starting the car. If i'm at a store or something I'll buckle at that point. If i'm in my neighborhood, i'm buckling up while i'm backing out of my driveway at the sametime.

This has been covered many times before. Go here for DIY. You just need to leave it in when car is off.

I always put the seatbelt before starting up. I also always demand my passenger(s) to do the same before the startup. Some say I am like the Transporter...
