Door Chimes
Today I was seating at my dealer and I was playing around with the 08 e90, and I notice that the door chimes is different than what I have. It was like this:
My question is there anyway I can change my 06 e90 chime into that? Do I have to update the software or anything? Thanks Oh BTW both doesnt have iDrive and they have about the same packages. |

Only the iDrive equipped vehicles have chimes like that. But for the 08, I am not quite sure if the non-iDrive cars also have a different chime. Was the one you saw at the dealer equipped with iDrive?
There certainly is something circulating around saying how the 08 have a different warning chime. |

Yes .. that is the new chime for the '08 with no idrive as well. They changed it .. why i dont know. That same chime is included in the 5 as well .. so it may be the new chime for all vehicles except for the x3 and z4.

That sound recorded is close... but not as clean and clear as my '08 335i door chime. There is also a setting within the radio to adjust the speed or volume of the chime... but when I played with it... I didn't notice any difference.
Everyone that here's my door chiime says it's the best they've ever heard! So... looks like BMW got this right for '08! I'd expect all their cars to get it over the years. Dave

I was provided an '08, 328, bare bones loaner at the dealership, and it had the doorbell chime. I hated it! It sounded super cheesy. I supposed it was BMW's attempt at a "relaxing" sound. But for me, I hate chimes, bells, buzzes, all that shit. My whole environment seems filled with noise pollution from intrusive sounds (e.g., cell phones notifying people of missed calls, text messages, voice mails, emails). In '03, I was so happy when I found out that locking my new 325 with the remote made NO noise, just flashed the lights (that's stealth). But later, I hated the seatbelt warning noise (maybe law now?) that was in my '06 330. In the past, only American cars made countless, mindless noises. Now our keenly engineered German vehicles are doing it. Cup holders, yes, bings, chimes, and buzzes, NO! I guess that's one good reason to have purchased an '07 335, and not an '08, no doorbell chime.

^+1. I had an '08 loaner and could not stand the new chime. It sounded cool at first but got annoying REAL quick.

Can someone record the 07 chime? I'm curious now!
