Blown strut??

Have a f32 w 21k miles

I have DHP

I noticed some clunking in the front drivers side when going over bumps. intermittent but not consistent.

New to BMWs and DHP...Since I have DHP, would it signal a code? I have a BMW scanner, but nothing relevant came up.

Any other symptoms of a blownstrut I can look for so I can come to a conclusion and figure out if I should bring it in or not

me, too

Anyone need to replace front struts at low mileage? Currently under 25K miles of mostly highway driving.

Just picked up car from service and was advised they were ordering new front struts ( DHP equipped 335i) from Germany, Noise was discovered by tech on test drive using chassis ears.

Under warranty but looks like the struts cost around $500. each. Hope this is not a "wear" time when its on my dime.

No codes thrown. I was hearing a noise but could not pin point. Now, it sounds like exactly what you are describing and my dealer confirmed.

see my post a few posts down the page.

Well this isn't great news for longevity of DHP struts. (before you people flame I know its only two people, but still)

Did either one of you guys hit a big pothole recently or anything?

no pot holes. No tracking.

Seemed to start at around 20K miles, too. Was thinking it may be my snow tires as this was the time for winter wheel/tire changeover.

WRONG....

There has been front suspension knocking reported by a few users at low mileage, some from nearly new. I would say more a faulty part, than blown, if it is the strut. Some have had a new steering rack for a front end knock.

My rear non-DHP suspension makes hollow wooden noises over small bumps at low speed. Almost sounds like something loose in the trunk but it is not the case.

Anyone have similar symptoms?

Yup, my dad's 2012 320d F30 had a serious knock which was sorted out by replacing the steering rack. It took 3 visits to the dealership to get it sorted. They kept replacing other parts but eventually did the rack and sorted it out.

The problem was demonstrable by driving ~40kmph / 25mph over a small bump and turning very slightly to the left. Showing the dealer how to replicate the issue was how we eventually got it fixed.

Cheers,
Ulijin

Same problem, DHP. Drivers side almost sounds like something is loose. My state inspection is in the Spring, I'll have it looked at then. That being said I just drove a loaner without DHP, and I liked the regular steering better. I have a 2012, could it be that the steering has improved?
And the handling was fine with the stock M suspension. Not E90 but fine.

Wow take it to the dealer. Sounds like a loose tension strut or smtg.

Have you had any luck at the dealer with this?

I swear it sounds like worn suspension mounts in an old taxi but I can't track down the source.

Sadly this is at the bottom of my list of open issues with the car. Got way more severe noise issues coming from the gear selector and sunroof. I think the tech noticed it once during a road test and attempted to fix it, so it no longer happens 100% of the time.

My 328i has been knocking over bumps (usually with a bit of lock on) from the driver's side since new. 67,000mls later, no better, no worse. The technicians had a look at about 28,000mls and replaced the shocks but that didn't work, so they gave up.
Meh, doesn't really bother me - just a thing I've excepted from the car! Drives as well as any other 3.

This is almost certainly your steering rack. Mine appears to have been indentixal to your explanation. My shocks were also changed and I had to revisit and moan about 3-4 times in total and eventfully they did it all at last!

just picked my car up. Waited 2 weeks for parts to come from Germany.
Feels great. They replaced both front struts an alignment.

Now, I hope these last more than 25k miles.
