Horrible Brake Squeal!

I just picked up my new M235 last night. I only have about 50 miles on it so far.

I love the car so far but I've noticed that when I slow down there is HORRIBLE brake squeal from both rear brakes. And I don't mean a slight squeak. This is the loudest squeal I've ever heard. Louder than the city buses. It sounds awful.

Is this normal? Will it go away as I break the car in, or should I take it back to the dealer?

I should mention it was 7 degrees F out here today. Perhaps that is the problem.

Happen in reverse also ?
Happen slowing with emergency brake at low speed?

Windows open, foot off brake, low speed any noise like small stone stuck near disc?

I will do those tests.

I definitely know it is coming from both brakes so that makes a small stone stuck unlikely.

With the weather as cold as is it here, I get a pretty nasty squeak pretty often. Only between around 5 and 15% brake pressure, I'd say. Super light: no squeak, moderate to heavy pressure: no squeak. It's a little embarrassing coming to a stop light with traffic around, but brake performance is unchanged, so I'll just wait for warmer weather again.

I have tried re-bedding the brakes as well, with no improvement.

I have the same issue with my 228i in cold weather. Very light brake pressure has some loud squealing, but it goes away generally after about a mile of driving.

squeaking and VERY touchy/grabby. Liked my '95 M3 brakes way better. I don't have the M, just the 228i but still. Perhaps a different pad compound? A brake update is in the cards.

I have the M Sport brakes and I've been extremely impressed with them.

No noises at all and the initial bite is amazing. I'm interested to see how they do on track with fade (I don't recommend stock brakes on track and will have track brakes in the paddock, but want to test these out).

Have you tried re-bedding them at all.

Sounds like I'm on race pads when coming to a stop light
