Replacing fuel filter on 2009+ 335D

Hi guys,

I was hoping I could get some advise. My wifes car just hit 50,000 miles and I am getting ready to do some maintenance on the diesel.

We just recently had the vehicle serviced for the a recent recall, it was regarding the DEF tank. So call your dealers up!

My biggest concern is about bleeding the fuel filter after replacing the canister, if it is anything like 1999 Dodge Cummins then it is going to be a total PITA. The Cummins takes about 15 minutes of cranking and manually bleeding individual fuel injectors before it comes back to life.

So I have been reading up on different threads ans still had a few questions.

1) Using DIS57 to prime the in-tank fuel pump: Will the DIS57 work on
335d's built after 03/2009 or BMWs for that matter?

2) Holding start button down for 10 seconds to prime fuel pump. Can anyone confirm this works? I know if I bump my key on the Dodge, the lift pump will run for 25 seconds.

3) Jumpering the fuel pump, not the most elegant method. But would definitley work if its just a 12V signal the fuel pump requires.

4) Bavarian Technic tool,not sure what level of the tool would be needed. But this is my least favorite option as it varies from $287-800 dollars.

5) Just cranking the motor in short burst untill the motor start. I honestly don't think that pump is running "dry", as the gears are coated in diesel, whick is very oily and heavy. I cant imagine the diesel injection pump spinning at a very high RPM. This is the method that all Dodge trucks have been using for the past 30 years....

I read through that entire thread. Looks like jumping the fuel pump is a good option.

Makes me apprecfiate the simplicity of my Cummins....

Just called Bavarian Technicm, they said none of the packages they offer will power the fuel pump on our cars.

I think the jumper option is our best option.

Your desire to properly prime the system is a good one. Running the HPFP without fuel, even for a brief time, is not good...

Also, I can confirm that the Bav Tech does, in fact, work on my car.

Have done it multiple times and also use the BT tool to flush the fuel filters into a separate container before hooking the lines back up and then priming the system. Picture can be seen here:
