Mineral White Owners Beware

I was recently rear ended and my rear bumper replaced/painted.

But the highly rated body shop, which specializes in high end cars can't seem to get the paint right. I've been through this with other cars and this is usually a no brainier...I'm guessing the 3 coat Mineral White paint makes it harder to match.

You be the judge:

I used a filter to enhance the difference.

There isn't a BMW dealer with a body shop near you that could use BMW OEM paint?

Also, if you had to use a filter to enhance the "difference" then maybe you are nitpicking a bit too much. I can hardly see a difference, and I bet from 6 feet away you couldn't tell any difference. There is always going to be very small differences from one paint lot batch to another, but generally not enough to get your panties all up in a wad.

You need pictures outside in different angles and different lighting, this isn't too helpful.

But yes, unfortunately Mineral Whtie is very difficult to match, as noticed several years ago with the previous M3.

It's more obvious in real-life, but you still have to look up close. Maybe it's all in my head, but this really bothers me.

For the people saying to use OEM paint you guys have no idea what you're talking about. Each paint for ANY color and ANY car has different variations. There could be 3 different variations or 10. The brand of the paint isn't the issue its that there are different variations and they have to play with the color to get it to match as close as possible instead of just shooting the first variation they pick and send it out the door. However that photo is terrible and shows nothing

Looks like I'm seeing dirty paint that was wiped with a hand...

The part wiped off, there is not difference.

Also, this is something every single car goes through, even in stock form. Some have the eyes for it, some don't. Some factory paint jobs do a great job of matching, some don't. Paint just doesn't lay the the same on plastic as it does on metal.

Op if you're not completely satisfied w the job bring it back and ask for the quarter panels to be blended to match the bumper. That's the only way you'll ever get it 99%. Nothing repaired will ever be 100% return to original form.

Looks absolutely fine to me, even with the un-natural "filter" boosting to highlight the difference.

To the naked eye, at 6 feet, I'm sure it's fine.

Something to consider... the bumper and rear trunk are at slightly different angles and will reflect and play off the light slightly differently. You can't expect it to have the same hue, color, etc. due to this difference alone. I'll bet if you looked at a stock mineral white with all OEM paint, it would show the same difference btw bumper and trunk.

the metallic is "standing" and the base color is off. but sorry to burst your bubble. they dont match from the factory anyways. its a 3stage coating so getting each topcoat exact is impossible. hence the color variences from the factory as well. yes you are correct. the color is off.
