SmartTOP Issue

Just installed the SmartTOP last week. Seems to work like a charm, though it's been raining too much to really play with it.

The one problem I've found is that I can't get the All Windows function (#4) to work properly. It's supposed to raise all the windows with one click of the all windows button ... but no dice for me.

Anyone else have this problem? Could be that something changed in the '08?

What's a SmartTOP? Doesn't the E93 already come with a pretty smart hard top as a standard equipment?

It's the missing E93 mod!

It let's you put the top up and down while driving under 25mph, put the top up and down from full unlock distance with the key fob, one touch up and down, and some other nice features.

The all windows up with the one touch was just a nice bonus ... but it still would be nice if it worked ...

Here's a link to the manual: https://www.wilhelmy-it.de/sms/db/sm.../en.php?mode=1

Uhhhh, -4 degrees F here today. Car caked with salt. Snow hanging from the wheel wells. Top staying up. Hope you get a chance to try the new mod soon.

Yes - just put mine in a week ago also, 2008 E93 and it does the same thing - the one touch up on the all windows button doesn't do anything - car is sitting until spring, so didn't think much of it - thought I might have programmed wrong - even though I am sure I didn't, but have not looked at it since the original programming - everything else seems to work fine.

Just shot a note to mods4cars asking the question - looks to me like a change to the 08 that is causing the issue - anyone out there have it working in an 08?

Nice, I sent them a note too. They'll think all hell is breaking loose, two complaints in an hour!

Well I just heard from another member with an '07. He said he had the same problem, contacted the manufacturer, and they said "Sorry, the feature isn't available on US models so you should just disable it in the setup."

Alas!

We've installed one on a MY08 335CiC, I don't recall any issues. I'll attempt to contact the customer as a followup.

Just talked to Stefan at mods4cars adn got the staight answer - the option does not currently work with US spec cars - he suggests to disable the feature and use instead the couple tap feature on the roof button which will cause the windows to go up or down one touch instead.

He is also looking to fix the issue, but needs a car to plug into and is looking for someone in the L.A. area with an E93 - call him if you want to get it fixed and live around LA 1-310-910-9055 x101

For everyone else, he said check back in a few months to see if they have a fix and will do an update for you once they know what the issue is.

Guys, I went by Stephen's place. Great guy. He and Sven worked on the programming on the "All windows One touch feature". After a couple runs, he got the programming done and now that feature is working! Not sure how they plan to upgrade the software on the units that were already sold. But for new units, this feature should be working now.

Sweet - I will put a message into Stephan and see what the process will be to get mine reprogrammed.

Do you guys use the ''open/close the roof while car is moving'' feature a lot?

I don't have the smart-top thing, but I would be paranoid about messing up the hard-top mechanism while moving (I know 25 mph is barely moving)...that hard-top seems kinda delicate, with all it's intricate workings and such.

So you can set it to different speeds, either have to be stopped, or 5,10,15,20 or 25 mph for it to work.

I am paranoid about how much stress the wind puts on the mechanism also, but what I really find it usefull for is those situations where you are at a light and don't know if you have enough time to get the top up and down while you are moving, with the smarttop, you can start the process and if the light changes, you can start moving and get that extra few seconds you need and never be going more than 10 mph probably.

THe hard top is also less of a wind catch than my E46 softop was - the softop at one point sort of sticks straight up as it goes into the trunk, where the rook stacks, but always stays horizontal - I am actually more worried about the trunk lid as it ends up being the big wind catch when you are moving!

I think in some markets BMW lets you move the top when the car is in motion from the factory, not sure up to what speed, but they did with the E46.

+1 agreed. While I wouldn't recommend dropping the top at 25mph, there's nothing wrong with a slow crawl.

This would be performed with a double-press of the lock button.

Nice! I'll have to contact them as well ... though I have gotten pretty used to the double upclick on the center top button. I'll have decide if it's worth the work + the shipping and all.
