My E90 330i, got rear ended today, damn!

Was stopped in traffic at the I5-CA52 merge southbound in San Diego this evening. The exit lane is also an on-ramp lane for I5 so it's always a tough merge. Anyway there's a cop ticketing a guy on the verge and I'm stopped just ahead of him. A white pickup came barreling right up behind me. I didn't have time to get into gear and maneuver out of the way so I eased off the brakes just on impact. He sent me into the guy in front (in a SUV) but I was already steering to the right so only very minor damage to his fender. His steel frame chopped into my front bumper though. The pickup was totalled, airbags deployed, passengers (2 males) dazed. The front end was completely drove in and down and fluids leaking everywhere. It had to be towed. My e90 looked awesome, cosmetic plastic damage, trunk lid lifted slightly, exhausts dinged a bit but otherwise looked fine. Not sure about what it looks like under the covers though. I couldn't believe how well the car took the impact. I got a bit of a jolt, feeling a little stiffness in the neck so I'm taking it easy for a bit. Interestingly and somewhat scary was that my airbags didn't deploy, probably because I eased off the breaks and allowed the car to absorb the impact better. Any comments?

I'll post some pics tomorrow. Too dark to take any now.
One of the benefits of a lease, I've got 11 months left, after which I'll be in a new vehicle. So much less stress than if I owned it!!

Gotta love that safety! So who's fault was it exactly? Were they not paying attention or were they following too closely?

That sucks. My 335i was just rear ended when I was stopped and a teen aged girl slid into the back of me. Only the bumper has to be replaced for me, so it could have been worse.

It's a funky lane, cars getting in to exit to CA52, cars getting in to enter I5 so a lot of cross traffic. So some cars are stopped/slowing to exit and some are accelerating to merge on. The guy in the white pickup was probably rubbernecking the cop and didn't see that the whole lane was stopped in front of him.
At least he had insurance :-)

Sorry to hear about the accident. The car can be fixed so you should be glad that you walked away mostly Scotch free.

I effin hate that! Purchase a nice new car with your hard earned money, and some most likely careless, unalert fool had to rear end you. Sorry to hear that, brings back only bad memories, at least for those of us that have had the same situation.

Is the Mtech kit a BMW part? I heard there are two bumpers for the 335i. They said one was sport, not for sport pack put M package. Does that sound right?
