Tracking the beast. In your plans??

We are rolling in closer to the official reveal (praying for this as I have no more nails to bite) and I can't help but think that many of us here will be tracking the M2. The formula (speculation) seems right for a fun track toy. Smaller stature and lighter weight than in-brand competition The M235i Racing has been a success and possibly specific race parts could be implemented to the M2 if needed.

So if you're planing to track it speak up and share your wants needs in such a car.

And if you aren't, is the M2 more of a DD??

Personally the M2 is more of a DD. I would only track it if you can only have one car. Not that it won't be fast and reasonably competent, but there is a big difference in feel and response of a dedicated sports car

Hopefully we will be driving the cars straight to a racetrack, just as we did with the M3/4 group ED.

I just want a 6MT.

My dad always told me when I was growing up:

"If you race your only car, you'll end up walking a lot"

I have other cars and would consider taking the M2 to the track, though honestly I imagine the E36 will be the better track car and the M2 will remain my street car.

I intend to drive and use it for street. Maybe track it on occasions just because it is a capable car for that application too.

If I get it, it will be 99% DD, and 1% back of the line, turtle car at the track!

Weekend blaster and occasional track toy.
Engine:
High revving (aka, the power band mustn't peak at 5,000rpm yet the car revs past 7,000rpm, very little irritates me more about small snail force fed cars)
Good handling (Not as much understeer as the 1 series suffered into corners)
It WILL have an LSD so that makes me super happy
Good brakes (Great ventilation and decent size (1 series and 6 and 2 pot respectively) so this thing must make these look and feel ancient)
6 speed MANUAL.
I really wish we could have Hydraulic steering on this car as well. Even if it adds 15kgs to the mix.

100% daily driver for me. This is why it has to be special, like really special for me to get it.. If it turns out to be an m235i on steroids then I'm not sure it will be worth the sacrifice in practicality over the F80, this car will have to deal with newborns in the time I will own it, something I am well aware will be a nightmare with 2 doors and a relatively small size but if the car is truly special I will be willing to work around this stuff lol

I don't see any other model being as trackable as the M2 in BMW's current line up. If people here are uninterested then that's kind of worrying.

Porsche has a had fun of models owners enjoy tracking.

Yes I will be. Twice a year usually, been in this routine for the past decade. The rest will be dd duties but I have a lot of fun at that too

The F8x have impressive cooling systems and are very reliable on track in completely stock form. Hopefully the M2 will have similarly robust cooling systems.

Sadly, there seems to be more concern over the material used on the roof than the car's utility on a racetrack.

I track my 335i as often as I can now, so if I get an M2 it will certainly see quite a bit of track time. (I have little doubt that it will be fit for purpose.) The only wild card for me at this point is if I gravitate back toward an F80 M3 instead... but either way, my 3-year plan includes building up a dedicated track car anyway.

The two concerns are not mutually exclusive! In fact, in my case, the former is entirely representative of the latter. Not that I feel a standard steel roof will significantly hinder the car's track performance, mind you... but the concern I have is that forgoing a CF roof signifies a general lack of commitment on BMW's part to making the M2 as light, nimble and enjoyable to drive as possible in this price segment.

If I get one, it will be in the garage during the week and seeing the track at least a few weekends a year.

The M2 will be my good weather car, just like my 135i was. I have an B8 Audi A4 for daily duties. I may put it on the track, but my real track car is my Porsche...
