Service stamp?

My car has it's first service tomorrow, just looked for the logbook which normally gets stamped upon service and I didn't get one. Have BMW stopped giving these out and the service history is stored on the key/BMW network?

My 2013 has the service logbook.

I like that I have it, easy for the next owner to see.

Agreed - otherwise for a Private sale you'd have to drag the punter to your Dealer and/or get a print-out .....

All you need to do is request a booklet and have it stamped, I need that for my car I always fit a oil change in between the inclusive service, way of protecting the engine with the diesel quality not always the best! so I can show this should I sell my car in the future. I also find it handy to see the details what was done.

Service details for cars without a service stamp book are logged in the iDrive system.

Yep, just had mine done too, when you go into the service items list, the service history appears at the top of the list, no need to visit the dealer on sale

My F10 of 2012 has the service logbook, too. Besides the iDrive or electronic key, it is easy and convenient to keep a hardcopy of the car's service history just in your glove box.

It may be convenient but it's open to fraud which it why they are no longer used.

It might be another reason for no use (after paper economy), but could you please specify a) what kind of fraud and b) what media you believe are fraud-protected? Thank you.

Equally idrive can be reset in two minutes without any service being actually carried out (exception is brakes).
I have seen so many people reseting the lights and selling the cars by saying 'oh history is on the computer'.

I am old fashioned and still would like to see booklet. Take the photos / details, go back and ring the dealer to confirm (if I ever buy privately) if the work was carried out.

Agree to a point, but the services carried out by the dealers can not be erased and everything is logged on the BMW UK national system.

The problem will come when back street garages claim to be servicing cars when they are older but can not update the system.

I guess that is where BMW 4 plus etc comes in....

UK second hand market, buying blank books online then getting them stamped and making up a service history.

No media is protected against fraud.

The way it works at the moment, if I get my oil service done by indy / reset the indicator then car's computer will be updated and that updates the key.
When and if I go to bmw next time and they put my key into their key reader, that will pick up all up to date info.
That will include oil service and bmw computer will update it however under the history, it will show 'unkown place'.

So they will have that car was serviced but location will be missing.

when i bought mine from BMW AUC, i've got the service book and the last service was done 15k miles earlier, but the service status on idrive has been reset.

Going to pop by the garage tomorrow to confirm the service has been done when i bought it. As don't think either they bothered to stamp the booklet or they were being sneaky and just resetted the indicator without doing any service!:thumb down

Didn't really bother with it as it had it had 1 year or 60k miles service pack inclusive left so i thought my arse was covered...

That's it! A media is just a tool, initially for the honest ones. I wish the owners can select all necessary options, and this is each owner's decision what works better for him or what does not. Right?

It's all set up for dealer servicing. If you have the car serviced else where then what happens then is anybody's guess.

Really, will this only appear after the first service? I haven't seen that in my car, but I haven't had it serviced yet.

Yes that is the point which I mentioned....
So car computer is not as capable as you think as it relies on the input of human being.

So whether you go with the book or computer, both can be tempered!

I would have rather fake book in my hand so I can provide evidence than having bloody computer which will tell you nothing!
