DS shifting annoying

In D mode you can sometimes experience hesitation when taking off from a stop. DS mode fixes this but introduces a different problem.
I love the "directness" of the DS mode if I am at a stop and gun it it revs all the way up to redline VERY FAST and it does not quite respond to my foot letting off the gas a bit to upshift, it stays in the lower gear even at 6000 rpm. I have to literally switch to D to make the gearbox go up a gear. I am used to automatics sort of "understanding" that when you let the gas go a bit that you want it to upshift. Have you guys experienced this?

The DS was designed to be more aggressive; hence holding a lower gear for a longer period of time. You can't expect it to behave like D whenever you want to dude.

the the peril of an automatic transmission, for a true automatic/manual transmission, one would have to opt for the DSG found in VW/Audi, and soon the E90/92 M3.

Just do the right foot mod in D and get used to the hesitation from a dead stop. Either that or drive in M so you never have to worry about when the car shifts, you can just shift yourself.

letting off the gas is a good "signal" to the computer that you're not gunning it anymore and it can afford to upshift.

+1 EXACTLY.

It is, after all, an automatic transmission.

I disagree. Let's say your driving through the "twisties". You're on a road that contains lots of turns back-to-back. You gun the accelerator to get to the next turn. When you hit the turn, you take your foot off the gas to slow down. You want the car to stay in the lower gear so that when you're around the next turn, the car instantly responds to the next push of the accelerator. You don't want to have the car upshift on the turn and then wait for the car to downshift again coming out of the turn.

That's why the computer doesn't upshift in DS mode. If you want to force it, hit the paddle or the stick and put it in manual mode.

I experienced this effect once when I went to pass someone. Shifted to DS, and gunned it. I flew by the car I was passing and went back to my lane and let off the gas. The car stayed at 6000 rpm! As if saying "That was fun! Do it again! Wheee!". I smiled.

Depends on throttle position and history. If you beat the shit out of it on launch then let off abruptly, it won't upshift for some time, but if you slowly ramp up it will upshift at a fairly low point. (3k if you're gentle)

you should have gotten a manual or if you want the auto box to shift when you want it to, why not just use it in manual mode?

YOu don't think that staying at 6000+ is overkill?

Especially when max torque is a lot lower?

I don't understand, just use the paddles?

M mode is the best of both worlds, good response and YOU have control of the shift points. It's not SMG or DSG/DKG but it's still solid

if u let off the pedal n leave it for a bit, it wud upshift itself.. not directly, but after a few seconds of letting go.. (try it urself, the computer wont blow its own engine up!).. if it doesnt upshift and you give it more gas, it wud upshift wen its time to (usually right before redline when in DS).... the DS's purpose IS to hold the rpm at a higher point than D does... I love this feature especially wen i'm passing people or on a windy/twisty road,, I let go of the gas pedal if i need to n jus give it a bit more again,, the car takes off without me needing to floor it, its response is instantaneous.... I don't know howta explain it really but u might get the picture.. kinda like what ibimmer346 said

If you want to shift up, use step and shift up. Isn't the point of sport mode to allow you run in higher RPMs without the damn thing shifting up on you?

I love DS + DTC on backroads )

another thing i like about DS holding a higher RPM longer is the "engine breaking" effect you get, especially on backroads, and you don't have to gear back down once you want to hit it again.
