verry fast ticking rattle on cold
I have the exact sound of this video, its on the driver side, it only happens
on the fist start up in the morning when the engine idle at 600 rpm and its cold the engine you can hear on the driver side a tiki tiki tiki tiki sound, then as the car starts warming up that sound decrease until disapear and reocurs next day, any idea? Idler pulley? I replace serpentine belt two months ago but no pulleys, fuel pump? Anyone here knows? |

Huh, that's not what I was expecting to hear... the tick in your video is more rhythmic. Does it increase in frequency when you rev the engine?

I have the same sound. I've heard it could be lifters too.
I've noticed that if I let the car rev a little higher when I drive it seems to go away for a little, which seems consistent with lifters

Well, i have likw 3 years now with the car and never heard this rattle it has like a month doing it, when i push the gas pedal this sound disapear but as soon revs comes to 600 you hear it again, this issue is just at cold engine, if i use the car in the morning and drive four blocks or so it disapear, or even if just let the car idle like 15 20 mins it will disapear, then you park in your job and pased four hours take the car again and isnt ticking, it tick only if you park the car for like 8 or 10 hours

I have this same problem. When i turn on my car theres this ticking noise that sounds like its coming from something that is rotating. When i accelerate it speeds up and slowly disappears but almost every time i slow down and come to a stop it comes back faintly in the background.
not sure what to do about this at all.. if anyone has any suggestions lmk. ive been told to start with the spark plugs, then injectors, then coil pack... but im hoping someone with similar experiences has a more narrow solution. (dont really have the money to keep throwing parts on hoping something works) *** 08 335xi n54 - jb4 - vrsf catless dp - vrsf fmic 7" - just had new brake pads put on - oil light comes on every few weeks lol FML Last edited by yas_e92; 03-06-2015 at 10:54 AM.. Did you check for leaks; valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket? |

Normal and infamous lifter noise. Happens at startup because the oil is cold and thick, therefore can't get into the small spaces as easily so the lifters aren't well lubed until the oil warms up. Sometimes can be eliminated by using 0-40w synthetic oil. Continue searching the web if you want to learn more about it.

The last oil change i put 0w40 castrol, and start adding lucas additive but for next oil change im going us 5w40 and se if this oil work better, i buyed an stethoscope today, im going try it tomorrow and se what happens it was at 3 dollars at harbor freight, have another question, i didnt chqnge the idler pulley and now almost always makes a buzzing soun barely audible, if you put your ear on the front grilles you can hear it, this could be te idler pulley bearing going bad?
