How many hours does N54 BMW service manual say for water pump replacement?

Dealership is quoting me 6 hours. I know it only takes 2. What does BMW service manual say? Can anyone provide pic or service manual statement?

Thanks!

Take it to an Indy. WP replacement is well known by most BMW indys by now. Quoted shop times are set considering the mechanic has to set up to do the job for the 1st time and extra time for problems and call-backs.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Judging by your user name that you have a xdrive. A water pump on xdrive takes quite a bit longer to replace due to the pump being much less accessible than one on RWD.

Take the fan out and the inner cooler out, and you gain some space.

It's a pretty straight forward job. Nothing too complicated.

Just takes time because your in tight quarters. I put my car up on a 4 Jack stands almost as high as it could go.

You should replace the thermostat and U shaped pipe between the thermostat and the water pump.

There is a great diy video on Bav Auto you can follow

WP takes well more than 2 hours. Without a lift you'll spend nearly 2 hours getting the car off the ground, moving everything out of the way and then draining the coolant. 4-6 hours is about right.

On an XI I would say 4 hours is about right. I would have an Indy shop do it though. Dealers work on book time.
