Black bits?

So my 65 year old neighbour said to me yesterday "...I like your new wheels but tell me, why since you have the black grilles, black spoiler etc have you not fitted black exhaust pipes and badges...?" after which he pulls out a carbon/black badge from his garage as tells me he had these on his M3s!

What do we think? Are there genuine BMW versions available for the bonnet, boot and wheels??

some people say they look tacky. but like me if your going for an all black look they do sit really nice. you would have to have the black alloys too with black M badges on the alloys instead of the blue for them to look right

Each to their own but not for me. The BMW badge is blue and white and should always be.

I think I would never change badge and tailpipe to black.

Same for me, always been happy to keep blue and white roundel.

From memory a lot to change...

Wheel centres
Front and back main badges
Steering wheel centre
Centre if key fobs

Only kidding.

There are some very cost effective eBay stickers that just go over the blue bits of the main badge if you want to experiment and see if you like the look for a 29s effort mod.

I dont mind subtle oem mods to Cars.

I HATE when you see people with random "Extra" M Power badges on various places.. I think I would fee the same about the change of BMW logo too.

When I first left school worked at a Garage (Mainly HGV), pretty much all the fitters and foreman, had cars with various mods done.

Admittedly back then 1980, very limited on body parts, all mods where pretty much Engine / suspension based.

Remember these 65 yr olds pretty much started off Ibiza and raves etc

Simply because I've not come across older modders before, except the guys who race up at Knockhill where I've worked before .

Good to know the desire doesn't burn out

was thinking of doing the same myself !!!

Got the black chrome tail pipes from bmw. Definitely looks better in my opinion but don't think I'd do the roundels.

Grilled are as standard but did see some m3 chrome and black replicas. Thoughts???

If anything some bits are 'harder' to do now, engine modding was very common, ranging from changing cam shafts (fit racing cams / valves) carbs', fuel pressure, sumps.

+1 to that.

IMHO it cheapens cars adding non OEM parts to them (incl wheels). I can get the argument of individuality etc and personal choice, but it's just that, a personal choice. OEM are ok, as are non obvious ones, such as lowering etc but apart from that, I personally keep it as the manufacturer intended.

So comments seem to match mine on the whole.

I'd like the black pipes as mine never look clean for more than 2 minutes.

Any wheels I fit must be OEM (hence my 442s). I don't like black wheels at all.

This is the main reason i got the black tailpipes, they never look dirty!

And they look great!

Don't know about the desiel but the black tail pipes on the M135 only seem to last about 4 months before they start corroding, I'm going to fit chrome ones from a 435i as they seem to last a lot longer
