Crazy retro-fitting

Looking at US threads and it's just crazy how much time and money people there will spend to retrofit things like:

Pro Nav
Parking sensors
Reverse and surround cameras

Somebody even fitted the KOMBI unit of an M3/M4 to an F30, just to get additional HUD features.

Seriously, what is the point??? I'm all for modding the car but at some point, it's better to get rid and buy another, surely.

Just pick a better car next time and learn from your mistake. I get coding as it's software but new kit like this, is it really worth it?

Yeah I have my regrets (like no xenons - talk about an uninformed shopper) and I'm having a hard time swallowing that pill. Only after-market option is 1k.

You can sort of get xenon-like with new bulbs. it's just the lengths they go to like new cameras, wiring, modules out of the car and re-fitting I don't get.

The NBT pronav is a doddle to install. 20 mins plus coding and your done, costs about 1/3 of the price (from ebay) speccing from new.

It's understandable if price is okay for fitting post build options.

However not when invariably spending more than original option.

Also if you fit something on to the canbus, you pretty much invalidate any warranty connected to the canbus

Fit pro media, anything proving sensor or settings to the promedia Idrive, then BMW would be within their rights to turn down warranty claims for stuff connected.

It also impacts servicing packs.

So buying 2nd hand car and updating yes no problems.

Buying new and updating is nope, spec it in first place or live without it.

In all the ones I read, the parts were more than the option and involved mucking around with CANBUS/wiring/modules.

Some guy bought PDC and reverse camera for USD50, thinking that's pretty much it, ended up spending USD2k to make it all work - more money than sense.

Well yes, there is that. Judicious inspection of options list always pays off!
