car is ruined

so less than 2 weeks old, i posted here some days ago about someone reversing into me in sainsburys. well his insurance have taken care of that.

now i have just come home after going out for an hour in the wifes car and someone has hit my 335 side on whiles its been parked up outside the house. its creased the nearside rear door. and stripped it of pain. will need a new door. whoever did it hasnt left a note or anything.

absolutley gutted cant even find words right now

Sorry to hear that OP. That's the exact reason why I have a dash cam. A dash cam would have caught that without troubles and you wouldn't have been as upset.

Good luck with it. Ask neighbours, someone may have seen something

Most dashcam's are only working when the ignition is turned on, otherwise you have the issue that it might drain the battery. There are various solutions which either have extra dedicated batteries or sensors which detects the voltage dropping.

OP, feel for you - hope someone saw something and got the registration of the car that hit yours.

Blackvue with power pack works well in parking mode. No issues so far. got it for a couple of months.

It might not be doing your battery any favours, as when left for longer time, it likely will only cut off after the battery have gone through a deep discharge cycle which will destroy the battery in the long run.

2 quotes bmw say new door new seal and painted come in at just under £1500 kc autos quoted £1300 but for the sake of it would go bmw if my neighbour doesnt own upto it ive got a feeling it was him. also the sil inside has a dent on where the door stop has pushed into it. didnt include this in quote as its not visible and lilely extremely expensive

How could a dash cam pick this up if he was hit side-on? I thought cameras point front and back (if fitted), not to the side? Surely there are blind spots the cameras cant pick up?

Sorry to hear this news OP, some real imbeciles out there.

If it was a neighbour I would take a good look at all the cars around. Bound to be some damage or paint transfer on something.

The car that hit OP must have driven down the street, so the dashcam would have picked it up before or after hitting OPs car, and the dashcam should have picked up the sound of the other car hitting OPs car, so one would know when it happened.

Where abouts are you, I can recomend Hanstons in Altrincham, even saw BMW dealers dropping off a few cars when I was there.

I have my cameras (front and back) hardwired.

At the start I encountered most issues you've mentioned till i installed a separate battery (external hard drive size). The battery only charges when the ignition is on. When fully charged I can get 3-4 days of continues recording whilst parked.

I agree with what you're saying till it happened to me about a week ago although I witnessed it myself from outside of the car.

At the weekend went for coffee and parked the car on the street in a row of cars. The car behind me left the spot and a woman tried to get into the spot and hit the n/s/r bumper corner by going in too tight. The cam didn't show point of contact however, what the cameras showed was:

Front camera showed the car approaching my car signalling, and slowing down to get into spot behind me.

The rear camera showed the nose of the car as it goes in..

At point of contact, you can hear a loud bang noise from the voice recorder in camera.

The car recorded number plates, time, speed which is sufficient evidence.

The woman got out of her car and examined damage to my car and hers (recorded on camera)

So yes there are blind spots such sides, but impact noise, vehicle movement at point of impact, vehicle approaching, getting away there's always something you can find.
