330D yearly oil change?
My F31 330D is approaching 1st birthday in a month or two and wondered:
1- Does anyone recommend an early oil change to extend engine life? I own the car and as it's perfect for us I do intend to keep it for several years. 2-What oil is recommended as I'd take it to a trusted local garage for this rather than the phaff of booking in to main agent? |

In my opinion, every car needs an annual / 10k mile oil change, at a minimum. A lot of the BMW timing chain problems that have been recorded are probably at least partially down to extended service intervals.
My background/qualifications for this ? I used to work for a major oil manufacturer on the Wirral (not far from the Runcorn bridge). I was in oil development and testing. As to getting it done by an independent. Ask your BMW dealer for a price. You might just be surprised. My first oil change (at 9.2k miles) cost £138, inclusive : oil, filter, labour, vat. In addition, if I do get any problems, nobody can try to claim that the work wasn't done properly, so warranty could be invalid. |
