Racechip Ultimate Vs JB4 etc
Guys,
There is a big thread on the N55 section about Racechip. People are having good things to say about the RC and im getting curious. Are any of you using the RC ultimate on the N20 motor. Can you share your experience? I'm debating which is the best route to go with my car. I find the JB4 a bit cumbersome, while I think the gains of the Burger Stage 1, or AFE scorcher insufficient. The RC might be the solution? N55 thread: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...1#post17571011 RC site: https://www.racechip-usa.com/chiptuning/BMW/2-Series/ |

Im not bashing RC but i would like to make couple things clear.
The RC ultimate is comparable to the JB stage 1 not the JB4. RC ultimate and Jb are both boost controllers that adds boost accross the RPM range. Jb4 offers datalogging, code reading and deleting, boost control by every 500 rpm, smoother delivery, etc... If the comparison is between Jb4 and race ultimate, in my opinion Jb4 is better because it is a complete tune. That being said a more useful comparison would be between Jb and race ultimate since they are both stage 1 tunes.

The Jb4 shines over all the other tunes once you add extra mods. If you are looking to keep your car stock look into getting stage 1 tunes. If you want to add mods in the future JB4 is the way to go.

I like the JB4 as burger says u can push in the 260-270whp range @17psi (Map 5), but its a bit of wire splicing. The RC ultimate has various settings that u can use to push more boost etc... but info on that is pretty vague. The BMS stage 1/ AFE scorcher both boost 4psi increase with a 215-225whp range. |

I thought the main 'disadvantage' of the JB4 was that you have to do something with the wires that makes it much more obvious that it's been messed with?

This is not a disadvantage. On the contrary it should be thought of as an advantage for the Jb4. It connect to more sensors so it can offer more control, safety and power over any other tune.

If you are not planning on using high mixtures of E85, you do not need to connect the FF wires.

I was told by burger that there is a fueling issue with the 20i so the FF harness should be used along with map 5. They do not recommend the JB4 on the 20i without the FF harness.

The downside is its a bit of a handful to install/uninstall and more room for user error. |

It says on page 8 : Black patch: We've added the FLEX_FUEL connector to newer JB4 harnesses which can be connected if you plan to utilize E85 fuel mixtures. Refer to the FLEX_FUEL guide for additional information. It can be tucked out of the way until you wish to connect it. Unless there has been change, FF wires are not used unless you are using ethanol. http://www.burgertuning.com/instructions/f30_install.pdf

I was also told that due to " timing related issues" more than 17psi should not be attempted on the 20i map. So only map 5. |

The FF wires require no splicing of stock car wires at all.

That's the JB4...the jb4 does require tapping in with positaps to the Can wires which leaves a little pinch it's not splicing. But you were talking about the FF wires. The FF wires for the x20i does not require any additional splicing of the stock car wires only of the JB4 wires....
