service interval message

Today I got a message that says service due, not the oil change interval, it just says "service". There's no codes and car runs beautifully. I'm at almost 90k miles, and recently (within the past 6 months/5000 miles) I've done spark plugs, 6 new coils, VCG, OFHG, oil change, tranny oil, brake fluid, and power steering fluid. A year before that was water pump/thermostat. Is there anything else I missed or can I just reset this service message? And how would I reset it anyway?

An "Inspection" service consisting of a number of visual, electronic and mechanical checks and a road test is called for every 30,000 miles. Many dealerships include most of it with a standard oil service.

Friday my brake fluid check light let up, so I took it back to the Indy. Using the stock and the trip reset he was able to get to the warning and reset it with a press of the end of the stock. Told me he refreshed the fluid last year when he did the brakes, so no need to do it now. The warning was only due to calendar time.

It could be something like the cabin filters/time elapsed.

So I guess I can just reset this thing right? How do I do that? Is it as simple as just going in the stalk menu and there's a reset option?

Google "red car on lift" to get more info. You should perform the inspections suggested by BMW (their old "Inspection II" service) and then reset the notification via the stalk, the same as an oil service reset.

It's not a red car on lift, I've seen that icon before. It literally just says the word "service" and nothing else.

I have no service indicator, so I haven't been able to replicate what the indy did. But getting in there WITH a service light will tell you just which service is recommended. Then you as the owner has to decide if you need to do the service or just reset it. Maybe you don't use your cabin filters and can reset. Maybe you changed the brake fluid, and you are fine with resetting.

Maybe you changed your blinker fluid last spring but forgot to reset the monitor.
