Exclamation PWC - Spoiler Alert!

Watching the first round in Pirelli World Challenge @ COTA, races 1 and 2 for GT and GTS classes were really exciting, hopefully you all caught it as well.

== SPOILER ==

The results were quite interesting I think. Race 1 was in the dry with bright sunny skies and Race 2 was complete opposite with heavy rain particularly during the GT/GTA races.

Race 1: Top 10 were 458, GT3R, Caddy ATS-V, 650S GT3, another GT3R, then the new GT-R GT3, 458, SLS GT3, R8 LMS, and Gallardo.

In the dry two of the top ten were 4WD and highest ranking was the Nissan GT-R in 6th place.

Race 2: Top 10 were 650S GT3 leading by nearly 40 secs, GT3R, Gallardo, R8 LMS, Acura TSX, R8 LMS, Caddy ATS-V, 458, GT3R, and 650S GT3.

Under heavy rain only 4 of the top ten were 4WD and first two spots were RWD cars. The long-anticipated 4WD genius GT-R came in 16th and 23rd under the rain.

Given that these cars are close to production vehicles, even in FIA GT3 trim, what do you make of this?

FIA GT3 series is RWD only. Unless they recently changed the rules.
I'm also pretty sure they are nothing close to production vehicles. Of course, that depends on what you mean by "close".

Going fast in the rain in cars like this is all about car setup & driver skill in the wet!

Michael Cooper put on a clinic in the rain soaked 2nd GTS race. He was somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 seconds a lap faster than the field in the new Z28. I'm guessing they disconnected the rear bar. lol

True, close is relative and frankly the GT3 or LMS trims are not actually that close to production. Regardless from a 4WD perspective the Acura, GT-R, R8 and Gallardo are 4WD in race trim and since PWC equalizes performance (I think based on pwr/wght), the race results are still quite interesting.

Of course, but setup and driver at this level are equally important dry or wet, although some drivers are much better in the wet than others, only 40% of the field was 4WD cars in the wet with no shortage of representation between Audi, Lambo, Nissan and Acura. So, I am not sure this argument holds IMO.

I was totally amazed watching the z28 truly pull away that fast from the rest of the field, it was very enjoyable to see, well done to those guys.

BMW unfortunately did not fare well at all during this first round and I think it is quite under-represented for some reason. I am just getting familiar with this series, so I don't much about it, but started reading the rule book to make more sense.

Yes the GTR, R8, and Gallardo are not all-wheel-drive in GT3 trim.

The only all-wheel-drive car, the Acura TLX-GT started 25th and finished 5th.

I was at the races, Ryan Eversley in the AWD Acura was driving through the field in the rain. It was a big advantage.
