Okay so I am going to be ordering a jet black 335xi in the next week or so. After a bit of trolling I've noticed that the jet black paint seems to be very soft, as if black wasn't hard enough to keep clean already.

Seeing as I've always mainly driven trucks/suv's that i wasn't too picky about cleaning and such, I was just wondering what cleaning products/instructions you guys would suggest for the super sensitive jet black. What brands of wax, cloth/shammy, soaps etc would you all suggest?

Do yourself a favor and don't get jet black. It will end up driving you crazy and still wont stay swirl free. With such soft paint its a bigger pain in the ass than its worth.

Maybe you should look into Black Sapphire Metalic. I don't know much about paint but I have heard a lot of complaints about the jet black paint being soft.

it is very hard to keep the swirls from happening. If I had a choice again I would go with another color

Get yourself some dark shades and only drive it at night.

If your dead set on Jet Black use Chemical guys jet seal 109 and a Glaze and and a Carnuba wax. Glaze has fillers to help hide marring. Or you can buy a machine polisher and become a DIY detailer.

well despite many people telling my not to get jet black, I think you may be the one who finally convinced me haha. Everyone else I've heard has either said it's hard but worth it or they're people that just don't like black cars to begin with

but you're the first who has said they actually have jet black and regret it.... looks like I might be going montego now haha.

Jet black is a great color. If its your first pick do it! If it is a DD ofcourse your car won't be clean everyday. Thats how it is for all cars! Just get some MF or wool wash mitts, P21S autowash, a bucket with grit guard, MF towels, wax and your set! Do not take it to a car wash, or wash it in the sun. Use all of these to keep your exterior clean and your car will be in optimal shine.

For interior make sure you buy a cleaner(chemical guys is good) and apply a conditioner after. And buy some rubber matts for your floor(they help big time). And apply Aerospace on your dash for some UV protection.

I should have mentioned that my car is jet black also. Its the primary reason I'm not buying out my car as I originally planned to after my lease is up. Montego looks awesome, after I saw one in person I loved it, its definitely a great choice. Since the day I have had it it has never seen an automatic car wash, etc. I have only washed it myself with 2 buckets, grit guards, sheepskin, microfibers, etc. The black paint mars so easily with even the softest microfibers if you use a little too much pressure. Every minor scratch shows, it's a real dissapointment. Maybe I'm a little too OCD but my next car will be white, gray, silver, or montego blue. Never will I own a jet black car again, unless its a Mercedes. The new cercamic clear coat is awesome when it comes to being swirl resistant, with good washing techniques it's difficult to mar that paint.
