She's gettin old :(

My baby just reached 100k km yesterday, I'm wondering what sort of maintenance things I should do or should anticipate in the near future to keep her healthy. Ideas?

I have no idea what a belt, tensioner, and pulleys are.
I'll be doing oil changes twice a year, one in spring and one just before winter. What oil should I use in the summer?
Techron fuel injector stuff, I used it before this winter right AFTER the oil change (I know that was a mistake). Is it too soon to do it again for my spring oil change?
No idea what a walnut blast is, should I do it now?
Spark plugs and coils...the car seems to run just fine, should I wait for signs/symptoms or just do them now?
No idea what a gasket is.
No idea when the coolant was changed last, will this show up on the dash?
Brake fluid flushed just before winter with the oil change.

Also keep in mind I'm on a student budget so I'd rather do things that are most necessary and perhaps wait for other things in the future

You will need 500 to $1000.00.

Your car at 100,000 miles is at a critical point in its life with regards to maintenance.

1) change all fluids - $300-400.00

2) spark plugs - $50.00

3) coils - $180

4) belts and tensioner & pulleys
$125

These are DIY PRICES

Do all this & the car should go another 100k. If not, it's gonna get expensive before its gets better,

Having next to no experience with working on cars I'm about to learn how to do my first oil change this spring haha. Knowing that do you think I'd be able to change all those things myself? Also, are all those things something I should just do without noticing any changes in the way she drives? For example why replace spark plugs if the ones in there now are firing just fine?

THanks!

100k kilometers is a bit different than 100K miles

Be prepared for the water pump to go out. Change the thermostat at the same time. Indy will do for about $4-500

You are going to need some brakes/rotors soon, if you haven't already. I think those ran me about $350/axle.

Then little(r) things like the window regulators (moves the windows up and down) as well as the oil filter housing gasket, door locks, and the valve cover gaskets/bolts are more fun to look forward to.

I have about 115k miles on mine.

I'll be careful here with my metric conversion... but 100,000KM is 62,000 miles, which ain't old my friend. Just saying.

Do you have 100,000 miles or 60,000 miles. Please explain.

If just 62,000 miles, I would

Change plugs - $40.00 (NKG)

If you have the N52 motor, you'll need these.

NKG IRIDIUM 9 / LFR5 AIX 11 # 4469

Change power steering fluid

Run a couple bottles of techron in a row through

Maybe change the brake fluid but only if the car says so.

Look into an Amsoil membership. I bought a 5 year membership for $80.00. You get 25% off retail.

Start saving for a brake job.

You'll need $500.00 for parts to do both axels.

That's probably about it.

As far as you working on it, I would advise against it. If you have never even changed the oil on your car,; won't be able to do the other items. Especially, if you don't have the tools.

My best advice to you would be to think about who you know that does work on cars and buy them a case of beer and be their asst as you do these items together. This way you can learn.

Perfectly accurate. If the water pump has not failed yet, keep some cash in a special account. When it fails you need to get it fixed NOW and it is expensive.

The rest is normal maintenance and you just have to go along, it's not bad.

This is also accurate for 100k MILES. Applies to the 328 as well.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm at 100 000 kilometers which is about 62 000 miles. I got the brakes and rotors changed 1.5 years ago. Brake fluid was flushed last fall (about 6 months ago).

About running a couple bottles of Techron in a row, I read someone that someone did that and screwed up their catalytic converter(?) somehow? Something about dislodging too much gunk at once. Excuse my extremely technical language here.

Not sure what Amsoil is but I'm in Canada, I'll look into it if they have that here.

Amsoil is oil and other fluids for your car.
