Misfitting parts...what to do?
Having seen a few members fit their own rear diffuser I thought I'd give it a bash - how hard can it be, right?
Got the m-sport valance off with a bit of faffin' with the clips but simple enough...then tried putting my new M performance diffuser on : It just doesn't seem to fit...screw holes not all lining up, and I don't think all the clips will. Maybe I'm being over cautious not to snap a clip or bend the part!! What would you do? I've got the car booked in with a friend tomorrow for the m performance exhaust pipes fitting, I could ask him to have a bash? Or is this just a badly made copy which will never fit!! |

The pics only show the end which doesn't meet! Although even then all the clips along the top don't line up by a few mm at least. |

yes looks like the fitting from the center to the side wise or loosen the fitted part to have all the bolts going in and then tighten it by having someone to make sure that from the back all the edges are fitted fine?

I had to drill 2 new holes underneath for fixings. The other 5 just lined up and no more. Is there a gap on the other side too? Or does it sit flush left and right when you mock it up?. i had to heat and bend all the clips up for the right fit and even then took a bit of fettling.

I've just had same. It's on, but not perfectly. 3a Motors one too. It required a bit of persuasion and stretching to get it to clip on but all the screws are on.
The quality of the plastic is very good. I'm a bit OCD, so I'll see how it goes for a few days and then if my perfectionist nature gets the better of me, I might go the whole hog and get the official M performance bodykit and I would then sell this diffuser for £70 if anyone is interested. |

I'm very OCD and would only fit bmw parts. Can't believe people spend £30k+ on a car then try saving fifty quid with a rip off part. would ruin the whole car for me even if it fitted well!

Sorry i'm late!
Have you got any pics of the middle? The top lip of the diffuser, i.e. not the lip that has the fins coming off it, but the one above, should be further in (towards front of car) than the bottom of the painted part of the bumper. If it's not then the diffuser is bent, which will make it shorter. I had to sand a bit offf the top edges of the diffuser to get it to fit perfectly. |

Of course if you'd rather spend £150 than do 10 minutes sanding then etto, however i don't think my labour is worth £900 per hour! |

I would love to be able to afford another £1000 for a few parts of plastic! But I can't! I wanted the parts so I've opted for copies of the OEM like many others do. I can't see how it will ruin the look if once fitted it looks identical?! Teaston, I don't have any other pics. Thanks for your help. Will pass on all this info to the fitter at garage tomorrow and hopefully he'll sort it no problem! Quite worried about splitter fitment now!! |
