I wonder if it will also be direct injected and use a HPFP like the 335i/535i and most likely 135i.

It may be sooner than you think (next gen M5)

But still, the engine is ALL wrong for an M car, the main reason being that it is going to be introduced in a consumer/standard vehicle like the X6. you'll never find an M engine in BMW's consumer line up or vice versa.
