is it true that new rims come with sealant?

Hihi,

this has probably been asked heaps of times, but just want to get a piece of mind...

got new sets of wheels SSW Mesh 19x8.5, 19x9.5 recently.....extremely happy.....

but heck, getting dirty, and wanna give them a good clean...spoke to the boss at the shop, said that should use car wax (wtf!?) to apply to the rims....he said dont use any other wheel wax and shit.....because the rims have some sort of chemical spray on them.....is this true?

been searching for wheel cleaner but scared that its gonna mess up the rims....any advice? cheers!!!

If you're looking for a safe wheel cleaner, you need to find a pH balanced cleaner, that is safe on virtually any rim. P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner is pH balance and is a gel form so it clings well to vertical surfaces. It's the acidic cleaner that you have to worry about eating away at your wheels and oxidizing the finish.

After a thorough cleaning, to prevent brake dust from building up I'd strongly recommend using Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant. This product is better than Wheel Wax and is safer on more surfaces. It will provide a slick barrier of protection to prevent brake dust from embedding into your wheels so that contamination slides right off with automotive soap and water. You won't be disappointed with this safe and easy to use combination of products.

Congrats on the new set of wheels!

George

i use Meguiar's Wheel Brightener.

only thing is that it is meant for professional use only, and can only be used on factory painted wheels (cannot use on metal/chrome wheels)

I use Wheel Wax and it seems to help. I'll have to try the Poorboy's Wheel Sealant once I run out.

yeah, seems like poorboy sealant and wheel wax is the way to go, saw some other wheel wax on local store and they warn about using on coated/painted wheel, aluminium wheel, metal wheels etc........

will just have to try out something....

it just says on the bottle "for professional use only"

probably because you cannot apply it to hot surfaces, and it is VERY strong.

+1 on wheel wax!

I have only used the CG wheel wax. I love it, but I cant compare it to anything else.

what about the wheel cleaner sprays you find at your local auto part store in the car washing section?

NOOO

they are mostly acidic cleaners, and after you use them too much they will start to stain the finish on your wheels
