Blown strut at 20k..;

So among the summer tires/rim change, alignment, check engine light, rear camera malfunction my car has been in the garage since Thursday.

I get a call today hoping its ready... And my SA tells me my left front strut is leaking and needs replacing before the alignment and is covered under warranty.

Should I be worried?? This doesn't seem normal unless maybe the crazy winter pot holes did something.

I hope I get my car back tomorrow, in withdrawal :/

I'd be tempted to ask that both front struts be replaced, so they are evenly matched.

So it is 20k miles on a M adaptive strut? Did the SA say how much it costs if out-of-warranty?

Yeah I have the adaptive M suspension. I'll check when I pick it up... hopefully today.

How often should struts go? I hope this isn't a sign of future things to come.

I think it was when I bent my rim.... same side. I guess the pothole did more damage than the rim itself... but I'm glad its all fixed under warranty.

Quick question about your alignment... Did you feel that it needed the alignment or was it just for the heck of it? I mean, did you feel vibrations and things like that? I'm wondering myself if it's worth doing an alignment even if I don't detect anything wrong with my car, having gone through 2 harsh winters.

I think he's getting an alignment because he hit a massive hole that bent his wheel. LOL And evidently took out his strut.

At 20k replacing in pairs isn't vital (although couldn't hurt to ask, but will likely say no). A strut should last upwards into 100k depending on driving conditions and type. Replacing a single one at 60, 70, or 80k would be a no-no for me, but at 20 it's not a big issue.

Looks obvious but I've hit a fair share of potholes and haven't felt a difference in the drivability of the car.

Can't say that I'm surprised that the pothole which bent your rim also blew out a shock. After all, Montreal is world-famous for its amazing road surfacing durability and quality

Well I was installing brand new rims and tires, and I didn't want to take a chance since I want to keep them long term. Also, I felt a pulling non stop to the right and when I would break, so it made sense.

Thank goodness the tech noticed the leak and fixed it, or else the alignment would be useless.
