Cleaning the Rims

Hi Guys

So i washed my car on Monday and there has been something that has been bugging me about the rims.

How do i clean the inside of the rims properly without taking the tyre completely off the vehicle? (Image below)

I have a nice long brush which I used but after i took the car out for a drive i noticed that while some of the break dust washed off there was still a fair amount of gunk left over and it has dried now so now my rims are all nice and shiny and black and then if you look closer there are patches of brown LOL. Any ideas guys?

Anyways picture and area I am referring to is below.

What are rims?

You're going to have to basically reach back there with a brush. I always wash the barrels during a detail with some wheel cleaner and an assortment of beater rags/brushes.

The only way to really clean them perfectly, is to take the wheels off. Sometimes I jack the car up so I can get my hand behind there and clean them. I use Sonax wheel cleaner also, works the best in my opinion.

I use wheel whoolies, I can reach pretty far in but not all the way. When I store them for winter I give them a solid cleaning while off the car and coat them with a sealant.

The brown residue after cleaning comes from water that accumulates post-wash from the discs. Unfortunately no way to deal with it other than to wash, wipe, let dry and wipe again.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Perhaps that is that it is? The water that accumulates post wash? Because I could of sworn my wheel woolies + Mit did a pretty good job cleaning them, I spent a good 10 minutes on each wheel.

So essentially from what everyone else says, unless I remove the tyre, i should just suck it up and deal with it lol =(

O wells perhaps Ill take Doctor M's advise! Just clean them twice :P

Thanks for the help guys!

Pretty much like everyone else. I use Wheel woolies. The large one first, the medium gets behind the wheels, inside the barrel. I use sonax first, then I have my own wash bucket just for wheel duty which I use the medium wheel woolies and a boars hair brush. Then I rinse off. Drive it around the block, and rewash from the bucket and use air blaster to dry it. For concours level wash you'll need to take the wheel off the car.

next time you do a good detail take the wheels off the car

clean them, clay bar them and then coat them with opticoat, qkuk etc.

it will make cleaning them in the future very easy

Run, don't walk to Griot's and get the large and small wheel cleaning brush:

http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...e=&from=Search

I spray water on the wheel, spray their wheel cleaner and then go in between the spoke all the way to the back of the wheel with the large wheel brush. Then I use the smaller one on the spoke.

Then I use the Micro fiber brush on the edge and other places to finish the job.

These work fast and easy and will fit between the brake caliper and wheel.

I coated my wheels with Menzerna Power Lock, the sealant not the Carnuba... Dust comes off so easy and I use a long narrow toilet style brush and with simple car wash soap n water, it's a piece of cake. Also Amazon some Iron X, it's that stuff that removes metal from paint... Do that twice a year and holy shit do they clean up nice

This is where the metro vac air blaster is good because you can blast most of the water out as soon as you've rinsed the wheels.
