Tag Heuer Carrera

I've never been interested in expensive watches (my $450 Citizen has been more than fine ) but lately I've become more intrigued. After doing a little bit of research, I seem to keep coming back to Tag. I think it is the sporty design cues that keep pulling me back to these.

I'm thinking about buying a Carrera Calibre 36 Flyback 43MM "Racer" but thought I'd get some opinions here first because I'm a complete noob to the nicer end of the watch world.

Here's a picture of what I'm thinking of... I'd really appreciate any thoughts.

that looks sporty indeed. i was on the fence about the omega speedmaster or the tag carrera...so i ended up with the tag it looks more sporty to me. im sure the omega is better but the tag looks much cooler and i dont regret it lol.

I think that's a really nice watch but at the end of the day you've got to pay the bill for it and you've got to live with it. Buy what you will enjoy

I went through this same decision process. I liked the looks of the Tag better initially, but I delayed my decision a few weeks, saw a lot of people with Tags as they are more accessible, and decided to get the Speedmaster myself, racing variant. Both have quality movements, but there was something about the Omega that pulled me

Saw the Tag Carrera in person yesterday......it's beautiful. My next watch will definitely be a black watch. Top of my list is the dark side of the moon from Omega which is very similar to this Tag. As a brand loyal person, I have been extremely happy with my two other Omegas.

The uniqueness of the dark side watch is that the body is solid black ceramic, which means if it gets scratched, it doesn't show because it's not painted or dyed metal.

Ceramic also makes it a very light watch.

This is a more difficult decision than I thought

I'm now changing my mind on style a bit... and there are SO many nice watches out there in and around this price range. I need to take my time on this and get better informed

Thanks to all who have commented.

I considered the Tag Carrera, but have heard rumors that TAG is currently having some issues as a brand right now (I don't have specifics).

My aunt sells watches and recommended I get an IWC, which I ended up getting after seeing them in person. You should definitely take a look at their Top Gun line up. IWCs are in demand right now and should hold their value very well.

With that said, I also have a TAG, which has held up nicely over daily use during for the past 8 years.

I've read some things to that extent but I'm not really concerned. If I buy, then I'm buying it really for the enjoyment factor and the design I like the best... not really for resale. If I ever decided to buy a REALLY expensive watch, then I might have slightly different criteria. This is my first venture into anything nicer than a Citizen Ecodrive

Here is the Tag I am currently leaning towards. I decided that the Racer was a bit too "casual" and I wanted something a little more dressed up for work, etc.

I like it. Have had my eye on the monaco for a long time even though more casual just drawn to it. May pick up next month when out of country at decent discount.

I lust after that watch as well. Not sure if I want to pay close to $10k for it though. It is a beautiful/stunning piece no doubt.

Big fan of the Carrera 1887 line, tried one on at Macy's and I really love the classy look. But I'm not sure I could pull the trigger on a Tag for Speedmaster money

I liked this watch as well until I saw it in person - it's size turned me off but I have smaller wrists/hands. It's a very tall body'd watch along with a very large face, though exceptionally nice. I also didn't like that the second hand movement was relegated to a smaller dial, which doesn't show off the movement as much as I prefer.

I haven't seen it in person myself but I spent a bunch of time looking at other Carrera's that are of similar size (43mm). I too have a small wrist but I actually liked how that size looked on my arm. I struggled with the second hand movement too but the more I watched it (no pun intended ) on the watch I was actually able to see in person, the more I thought it made the watch feel a little different and unique.

In the end, I decided I liked it a lot and it is a good way for me to start off in the world of nicer watches... it should be here in a couple of days

I'm also thinking about getting a more casual version of a Tag like the black one in my first post in the thread. This one for the work week and one for the weekend. Maybe next year... I'm still shocked I spent more than $400 on a watch and feeling a bit guilty/frivoulous

Really? That's interesting. I have only seen one Omega Dark side of the moon,(44.5mm), I have seen that they have a Gray side of the moon but that's the only variants that I have seen in person or on the Omega website.

On a previous comment about the cost.....over here its €9,400, that's currently $10,281...but purchases over €45 are tax free for me (and you as well -as a tourist) which means you can get the watch from a dealer (not the internet - which BTW Omega's cannot be legally priced and sold on the internet) for $8,122. Wait for the Dollar to get stronger and it will be even cheaper.

They also showed off the omega white side of the moon at basel world this year. it's so ugly I don't even want to post a pic of it though out of the 3 though (white, dark, and grey) I like the grey side the best.

Here are the new Omega Darkside of the Moon variants though

I have a Tag Carrera and I love it. It was a wedding gift from my wife. I wear it just about every day. I've only had it a couple of years but it's been perfect. I've been surprised by it's durability, but I also take pretty good care of it
