Uneven suspension by BMW design?
is this true? see attached pic. just noticed mine is uneven on with the passennger side lower than the driver side. Not much but still uneven. If yes, what is the acceptable range? I am lowered in H&R sport and didnt measure the gap before installation. I have about total 3,500 miles. Thanks.

I don't know if it's true or not but many people seemed to Have this. My F36 is higher on the left rear by a quarter inch. The fronts are even. I've taken it to a large BMW dealership (at 800 miles) and they kept it for three days while providing me a rental from enterprise (they were out of loaners). They can't find any issues. What surprises me and keeps me skeptical is the fact that they never mentioned it's this way by design nor did they provide any technical data to say it's either within limits or set at proper height. I did have my wife measure when I sit in it and it did lower on the left to within an eighth of an inch but I may weigh less than what it was designed for. Who knows but a lot of people have the same issue or non issue.

Just be thankful you have a LHD vehicle.
In Australia and the rest of the RHD market the car sits lower on the drivers side. BMW make no effort to adjust this for the RHD market, all cars are set up for LHD. Net result is my drivers side is lower before i sit in it, and then it sinks even lower once im in it. It's so lopsided it looks ridiculous. I can noticeably feel the car leaning. I consider this to be lazy negligence on BMW's part. And i would go as far as saying that it must make a difference to the safety and cornering characteristics of the car. More RHD owners need to kick up a stink about this. SUCKS.... |

My AH3 is also higher on the left side by about a quarter inch. I recently just replaced my springs and did the before and after measurements. See the "spring suggestion for AH3" thread for the pictures.

I just finished installing my kw coilovers yesterday night and noticed my fronts sit even while the passenger rear was sitting 1/4" lower than the driver side. I wasn't sure what was the problem and was already starting to think I had a bad shock. I guess this is common. Either way I raised the rear and now all 4 corners have an even drop.

I remember my h&r sports were slightly higher on the driver side to compensate our weight while driving so I did the same when I installed my kW, only about 2mm higher on the driver side but is perfectly even when I'm in the car.

i measured mine from the top of the centre cap to the arch and the rear drivers side is the lowest at around 33cm then the front drivers side at just under 34mm, both the front and rear on the passenger side are just above 34cm.
remember i'm in the uk so my driver side is on the right, will be getting some h&r sport springs with 10mm spacers for the front and 13mm for the rear which should hopefully even it all out. |
