Cool Downshift/Kickdown Feature

I assume some (many) of you may already know about this feature, but I just learned that it was a feature on the M4 yesterday and confirmed today that it does, in fact, work with the F85 automatic as well.

Here's the deal. If you are in S mode (say 7th gear) and engage the kick down button by flooring the throttle and, while the throttle is fully depressed, you downshift, you won't simply drop one gear into 6th. Instead, the transmission will drop to the lowest/most aggressive gear it can handle based on engine RPM. While testing today, I got it to drop from 8th to 3rd!

Personally, I find this to be an extremely practical and well thought out feature. Plus, it is super cool. Needless to say, I love it!

So, for those who haven't heard of this before, give it a try. You won't regret it!

Thanks for the heads up! I didn't know about this feature. I'm still in the break-in period, so once I pass 1200 miles I'll try it.

I'm also eager to try the Launch Control. Anyone try it yet?

Wow! Very interesting! I'm in the same boat, I'm 300 miles away from break in period. Anybody know what the dealership does at that service?

Joe, I don't know what's done at the 1200 mile service, but I was told that if you go over 1200, they won't do the service. Make sure you schedule your appointment in advance just to be safe. I'm 700 miles away from my break-in service.

That's crazy. I had the 1200 service done at around 1400 miles without any incident. Was the first F85 they had seen..

My SA said that the service consisted of both an oil and diff fluid change. But I don't recall exactly what was listed on the service receipt. Can check on Tues when I get home...

I just got a M4; going to get x5M at end of summer and with M4, they did the 1,200 mile service at 500 miles... I brought it in for another issue and they said it was greenlighted to get the breakin service early... I'm trading it in for the x5m so I wasn't too concerned to ask more questions but just a heads up that you can probably do it early!!!!!
